When Rudaina Chowdhury applied to Cardiff Met through Clearing, she never imagined it would lead to a Deanβs Award and a prestigious Artists Futures Fund Fellowship.
Originally from Bangladesh, Rudaina moved to Wales during the Covid pandemic and rediscovered her childhood passion for drawing during lockdown. Despite expectations to pursue a more traditional career path, she chose to follow her creative ambitions and applied to study BA (Hons) Illustration at Cardiff School of Art & Design.
"I applied to Cardiff Met through Clearing and got accepted to study BA Illustration," said Rudaina. "If it feels scary, then it means you're doing things right. Things will work out how they are meant to for you.
Supported by inspiring lecturers and opportunities to experiment with a range of creative techniques, Rudaina developed confidence in her artistic voice and graduated with a Deanβs Award before securing a highly competitive fellowship for emerging artists.
If you're considering your next step, Clearing could be the opportunity that changes everything.

We are delighted to share that today we had the privilege of welcoming the Dr M Nazrul Islam, Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh High Commission London, and his delegation to Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Our Cardiff Met Bangladesh Community student delegation team led by π§π©community mentor Senior Lecturer, Cardiff School of Technologies Dr Jasim Uddin Shipon and community founder Fardous Abbas Chowdhury warmly received the Acting High Commissioner before engaging in a productive one-hour meeting. During the discussion, we highlighted several key student-centred priorities, including greater flexibility in tuition fee payments, access to affordable accommodation, effective mechanisms for addressing student concerns, and increased scholarship opportunities for Bangladeshi students.
It was a highly constructive and fruitful discussion, reflecting our shared commitment to enhancing the student experience and strengthening educational collaboration between Bangladesh and Cardiff Metropolitan University.
We sincerely thank the Acting High Commissioner and his team for their time, engagement, and valuable insights. We look forward to building a strong and lasting partnership that will benefit current and future Bangladeshi students.
