✨ A little look into what we have been exploring in the garden and studio lately:

1. Studying our dragonfly through different microscopes, comparing its wings with a bee’s wing, and talking about all its wonderful features.
2. Researching dragonflies together, asking questions, and co-constructing our learning about the natural world.
3. Making beautiful, detailed observational drawings of the dragonfly and of apples picked right from our allotment.
4. Noticing ladybirds in the garden and exploring how everything connects—from insect wings to delicate spider webs.
5. Developing independence and creativity in the art studio as we bring our ideas to life using a range of materials🌿🐞🎨

A week full of curiosity, creativity and connection.

1. Finding creative ways to transport the apples we picked at the allotment
2. Discovering corn at the allotment
3. Hugging a giant tree at Forest School
4. Using our imaginations to draw a “man with four heads”
5. Exploring colour and paint in our art studio
6. Looking closely at chestnuts through a magnifying glass
7. Helping a new friend with discovering and composting
8. Building enclosures for wild animals
9. Learning how to care for our seeds and help them grow
10. Using our strength to pull parsnips from the vegetable patch

1. Finding a dragonfly that sparked curiosity and wonder
2. Researching the features and developing a greater knowledge around dragonflies
3. Exploring the properties of clay by mixing with water and developing our fine motor control
4. Our first visit to our nursery allotment this year and meeting the other local tenants where we got to taste melon, pick apples and harvest cucumbers
5. Exploring painting with our hands and brushes on a large scale
6. Mark making with cars and creating a ramp using paint
7. Taking time in nature to observe the birds and our surroundings at the allotment

✨ What a wonderful first week back at nursery! ✨
We’ve been busy making new friends, exploring our environment, creating marks and making lots of exciting discoveries along the way.
So many little moments of curiosity, confidence and connection as our new and returning children settle into nursery life. We’re looking forward to all the adventures ahead!

Our Spider Discovery.. 🕷️

It’s been an exciting time in nursery after the children spotted a large spider with a white round sac scuttling along the wooden planks. The children watched in amazement eager to learn more! After some research we discovered this round shape was likely the sac where the baby spiders grow!
After some time we discovered another spider perched on a leaf of one of our new trees. With a closer look we realised it was guarding its babies… or spiderlings! Could it be the same spider? The children set about investigating their discovery further. Lots of researching using the iPads and looking through information books. We found that this particular spider is called a Nursery Web spider. They carry the sac in their fangs and when the spiderlings are ready to hatch they find a spot on a low down plant. The mother will create a web as a tent to protect the spindlings as they grow.
The children decided to help protect the spiders and coned off the area. Another child wrote a sign warning others to stand back. They all returned each day eagerly waiting and watching to see what might happen next. A beautiful opportunity to experience nature in action!
