The Museum's coinage tool collection offers a unique insight into how coins were made. Among the highlights is this portrait punch from the reign of Charles II, showing damage to the bust yet still listed as serviceable in Mint records. With punches taking around a month to produce, it was likely more practical for engravers to repair missing details directly on the die. This reflects the skill and resourcefulness behind historic coin production.
