Happy Mother's Day 🌸🏵️🌷

On Thursday we had a lovely time celebrating World Book Day. The children brought in their favourite stories from home, and we all enjoyed sharing and reading them together throughout the day. 📚😊
We have a trip to Canterbury Library coming up soon, where the children will have the chance to explore lots of books and choose some more stories to listen to. 📚😊

🎅A huge thank you to MSK for their very generous donation of book vouchers. Our children were excited to welcome Santa (MSK’s Ashley Humphrey-Smith) to their Christmas party last week.🎅Santa arrived carrying a sack full of presents, and chatted to the children and their families before handing out a card and book voucher to each child. Thank you😁

MSK is proud to have supported the Ofsted-rated “Outstanding” Stepping Stones Pre School Canterbury by donating book vouchers to pupils at the school’s annual Christmas party, held in Canterbury on 11 December.

The vouchers were presented by MSK’s Head of Commercial, Ashley Humphrey-Smith, who attended the event dressed as Father Christmas, helping to bring festive cheer to the children and their families.

Commenting on the initiative, Ashley Humphrey-Smith said:
“Learning to read in the early years is a fundamental stepping stone for children, enabling them to develop language skills, build confidence, and enhance their social development. Being able to support younger generations by providing these vouchers as gifts is a genuine privilege.”

The donation reflects MSK’s ongoing commitment to supporting local communities and encouraging early learning and literacy development.

Vicky Hough, Manager of Stepping Stones said:
“...thank you to MSK for the very generous book token gifts for our children. They were very much appreciated, both by the Stepping Stones team, and our families. Thank you.”

Stepping Stones is a charity pre-school, totally focussed on our children, families and community, where children build on their learning through creative play. Our mission is to nurture every child’s individual interests and to partner with families in their child’s learning. We have been at the heart of the local community for over 55 years, and provide excellent opportunities for children's learning and development, both in our spacious hall and our wonderful outdoor area.

The government funding that we receive does not cover the full costs of the childcare we provide. To continue delivering outstanding early years education, we rely on fundraising and the generosity of our families, local businesses, charities and community organisations. Their support helps us to bridge the gap and ensure every child benefits from the best possible start.

We’re excited to be extending our hours to 8:30–14:30!

This means that from January 2026 you can use up to 30 funded hours right here at Stepping Stones.

🎨🖌️ Our children love selecting their own creative materials and exploring them freely to express their imagination and creativity. This kind of hands-on play nurtures their independence, develops their problem-solving and fine-motor skills - and, of course, results in plenty of messy fun! 😀

The new go-kart tyres have been a popular addition to our loose parts play. The children have had so many creative ideas on how to use them already - rolling them, lining them up, building towers, creating obstacle courses, and lots more. What will they come up with next?! So much open-ended fun and learning🙂
