High Down Rocket Site, Isle of Wight 16/05/2026

Just posted my latest Isle of Wight film on my new channel. It will be based around astronomy from a backpack. The editing part is rewarding, let alone the drone flying, photography and the walk to get to these places...

This is a shot that will form part of a new sequence of the High Down Rocket Test Site. The lack of wind (for a change) and increased bravery on my part, allowed me to fly my drone to see the site from a new angle... The landscape filmed here will be used for a scale model that should be ready in a few weeks.

Paid a visit to Britain's own rocket test site today. Perfect weather for drone flying. High Down, Isle of Wight. It was active until 1971. I'm using these images to produce a 1/76 scale model of the site for the Wight Aviation Museum

The completion of our Sittingbourne house sale went through yesterday. So we now feel our semi-retirement has begun. We will service schools on the mainland for around 3 weeks a year. See www.astronomyroadshow.com for availability. These pics forms a part of our new life on the isle of wight. Expanding this display at Wight Aviation Museum is my first job.

After 32 years and 2 months, just completed the last full-time planetarium performance marking retirement- at Lenham School in Kent. (We will service schools on the mainland 3 weeks a year, dates to be announced on the website www.astronomyroadshow.com ). The service began with a chat with a teacher in Arizona, October 1992 - Terri McIntyre. Worked often with Peter Golding of Astrodome for many years too. I will still be performing on the Isle of Wight, perhaps 10 - 20 days a year, a paid hobby. Off to buy some Glenfiddich Whisky to celebrate. Moving out of Sittingbourne on Wednesday, moving into a 4 bedroom /3 bathroom park home near Canterbury as well the lodge on IoW. Completion of house sale should take place on Friday. Big week for us. Hope it all goes smoothly. Not easy to co-ordinate. I will be concentrating on teaching via my YouTube channels and supporting books... www.outerspacebooks.com (pic of our 8mt diameter dome - largest in the UK).

My talk tonight for the vectis astronomical society has made it in the local paper for some reason....

31/01/2026

Today, 32 years ago I began my planetarium business - Astronomy Roadshow. It came from a idea given to me by a teacher in Arizona,.. Terri McIntyre. Not sure if I'm the longest running operator in the UK. With the worsening traffic chaos and fees, increasing demand for paperwork from most school bookings (not all), reduced bookings since the election, extra complex paperwork from the Inland Revenue, and health issues, we regrettably decided to reduce our service and retire from the 23rd March 2026. The fun of operating it has somewhat faded. All the equipment is being transferred to the Wight Aviation Museum at Sandown Airport. We will serve schools on the Isle of Wight, as well as hold lectures at the museum and nearby colleges. This career has been great fun, met lots of interesting people and taught / entertained approximately 1.4 million people. Scientists and Astronauts have entered my dome including Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock Dr Patrick Moore, Astronaut Helen Sharman, Prof Stephen Hawking, Sir Roger Penrose and many others, I was greatly humbled by them. I detest false conspiracy theories as it is pure anti-education and diminishes the work by mathematicians, scientists, engineers, teachers and explorers over centuries. I will continue my personal quest of attacking these conspiracy nutters and assist real education get back on track via lectures, my YouTube channels and books.. www.outerspacebooks.com Millions of people don't seem to believe in fact-checking any longer, so complete idiots become elected and we all suffer.
