What a wonderful way to round off the musical year in Canterbury Cathedral. Seeing our now 60 (Sixty!) strong full orchestra filled by students from across every year group, alongside our choirs in full voice, was something really special!
Our students did us proud throughout a truly memorable service. Commem is always a bittersweet occasion as it marks the final performance of the year and our chance to say goodbye to those leaving us. Thank you for everything you have given to the Music Department—we wish you every success and happiness in whatever comes next!

Success in the Cambridge Chemistry Challenge

Congratulations to our Sixth Form chemists on their excellent performance in this year's Cambridge Chemistry Challenge, a prestigious national competition designed to stretch and inspire talented Year 12 students.

We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of our students, with Inshu T receiving a Copper Award and both Manqi W and Jennifer N achieving the highly prestigious Gold Award. These accolades recognise outstanding problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of chemistry beyond the standard A Level curriculum.

Their success is a testament to their hard work, resilience, and enthusiasm for chemistry. Congratulations to all participants on this fantastic achievement.

Cambridge Chemistry Challenge

Celebrating Excellence in Classics Education

We are delighted to congratulate Adam Mason, Joint Subject Lead for Classics at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar School, on his recent recognition at the 2026 Classics for All Impact Awards.

Adam Mason's work has helped inspire students and broaden opportunities for young people to engage with the ancient world. Following an awards ceremony, organisers from Classics for All described the winners as “brilliant” and spoke of how attendees were inspired by their achievements and commitment to classical education.

We are incredibly proud of the contribution to the school and the wider educational community that Mr Mason and the whole Classics department make each day.

What we do Our approach

It was the Year 7 District Athletics Festival last Wednesday at Canterbury Academy. For most of the team, it was their first experience of a competitive athletics event.

Our preparations had been disrupted by either torrential rain or a heatwave, making team selection and training challenging. Fitting training sessions into the occasional lunchtime was far from ideal, but the hard work clearly paid off.

The team produced an outstanding performance on the track, achieving a clean sweep by winning every event: the 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, and the 4 × 100m relay.

Special congratulations go to Ivy, Evie, Bea, Alma, and the relay team of Ivy, Evie, Isabel, and Evie, who all delivered exceptional performances and should be incredibly proud of their achievements.

In the field events, Tilly and Anna competed in the long jump and high jump respectively. Both were very new to their events, yet they performed brilliantly. Tilly produced an excellent long jump of 4.20m, while Anna competed with great confidence in the high jump. I am incredibly proud of her for holding her nerve and securing second place.

In the throwing events, Kitty-Rose threw over 19m, a fantastic achievement for a Year 7 student. Avah also finished second in an event she has only recently discovered and she has already shown tremendous potential. Judel took first place in the discus, a reward for the hours of hard work and dedication she has put in during lunchtime training sessions.

The students were an absolute pleasure to be with throughout the day. They represented the school with enthusiasm, determination, and excellent sportsmanship and they can look forward to many successful athletics competitions over the coming years. It will also be wonderful to see many more students taking part in our annual Sports Day, where I'm sure we will discover even more emerging talent.

The paintings you submitted for this year's competition, themed 'Conceal/Reveal', were outstanding!

A stunning 3D printed/ laser cut portable radio, designed by Isabelle in Year 12, inspired by Dieter Rams. This is fully functional and wrapped in orange leather. An outstanding piece of work, well done!

Art Technician Technicians at Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School, Canterbury

Congratulations to Koko in Year 8 and Beatrix in Year 10 who were both selected as winners in their age categories in this year's Oxford University Classics department creative competition. This year's theme was 'create a meme on a Classical theme' and the design could be based on any aspect of the Classical world - mythology, history, literature, theatre, art or archaeology.

Koko's entry related to a 3rd Century BCE philosopher and Beatrix's was to do with the Trojan Horse. The winning entries can be found below. They win a £50 gift token, a certificate and their creations on the Oxford department website.
