🚨‼️MOST BORING POST ALERT ‼️🚨

For those coming to your singing lesson in person this week - if you have to come via Canterbury PLEASE check the traffic before you come allow a huge amount of extra time to get to me. The traffic is beyond horrendous (yes, I am being dramatic, but it really is, I’ve never seen it this bad!!) all around the city wall in every direction it seems.

I don’t have capacity to run lesson times over and so I don’t want you to miss out! If you can, get the train 😅👍

Anyone else almost weeping with relief at the sight of daffodils and snowdrops and tulips and crocuses (croci?! 😅) and the bloody beautiful blossom breaking out everywhere?!

Here’s a little selection of songs that have popped into my head over the last few days that you might enjoy singing, listening to, or just bopping along to:

Waters of March - Art Garfunkel
Simple melody, but some quirky intervals, brilliant for anyone working on intonation at a beginner level.

Poisoning Pigeons in the Park - Tom Lehrer
Not the most obvious Spring opener… but the first thing that came into my head this morning. Dark humour, brilliant character work, and a genuinely great cabaret song I’ve taught a few times (👋Maya and Lou!)🐦

Skippin’ Down the Sidewalk - Amelia Day
Not technically about Spring, but I sang it to myself on that ONE warm day last week while walking the dog. Sunny vibes, fun register changes, joy 😄

Spring Fever - Elvis Presley
Classic 1960s rock and roll. Enough said.

Here Comes the Sun - The Beatles
THE sunny Spring anthem.

I Can See Clearly Now - Jimmy Cliff / Johnny Nash
Pure relief.

The 59th Street Bridge Song - Simon & Garfunkel
Garfunkel sneaks into the list twice… only for those feeling groovy.

Daydream - The Lovin’ Spoonful
Chilled, jolly, so 60s.

About Damn Time - Lizzo
Quite right.

Suis-moi - Camille & Hans Zimmer (from Le Petit Prince)
Sunny, French, free-feeling. Makes me feel like I’m sipping coffee in a village square in the south of France somewhere… cheerfully getting all the words wrong 😝

Over and out until Jan 🫡

It’s been a really brilliant, busy term - well, a busy year! Thanks to all the singers I’ve worked with for your trust in me, and for being interesting and interested players of this weird and wonderful instrument we all have ❤️

I say it all the time, but I’ll say it again - it’s a privilege to do this work and, best of all, it has been so FUN 🤩

All the best for a relaxing and well-earned break - stay hydrated, eat well, avoid the bugs as best you can, rest up and enjoy all the festive singing 🎶 😀🎄⭐️

Some kind words from November’s workshop:

💬 “I had a really excellent day and gained so much”

💬 “I didn’t realise I would feel as excited and inspired as I did within such a short space of time”

💬 “I loved hearing where the model has come from, and how accessible the approach is for all singers. It allows confidence that everyone’s voice is valued and has a place without comparison to others.”
