Summer School: Fashion & Sewing

Creatives in action this week.

From folding and preparing their fabrics, to measuring, cutting, pinning and working confidently on the sewing machines, we love seeing just how hands-on our young people are getting.

There is something special about watching them concentrate, problem-solve, learn new techniques and slowly turn pieces of fabric into something they have made themselves.

They are learning by doing, making with confidence and creating something of their own.

We switched up Beginners class course outline adding extra lessons, details and projects to even make this course the best experience for our students.

Our beginners even got to explore projector sewing in class!

Such lovely sessions so far, and projects are already coming through.

This is the best Beginners course you can find!

We already have a date for the next class... 4th November start and we would be offering both morning and evening sessions!

Registration will be open from 20th Aug.

GOLD! GOLD! GOLD!

One piece of news that has had us absolutely buzzing over the last 2 weeks is this amazing, amazing news...

The first group of students entered from our Fashion Foundation programme have successfully achieved their Gold Arts Award!

We are SO happy and incredibly proud of them.

Over their Fashion Foundation year, our students developed skills in fashion design, sewing and garment construction, pattern cutting and pattern making, fashion illustration, portfolio development, creative research, textile experimentation, digital fashion skills, presentation, independent creative practice and much more.

They developed their own ideas, created original garments and collections, built their portfolios and then brought everything together for a final public showcase and fashion show, presenting their own original designs.
But they did not just finish the programme with new skills, new work and a portfolio.
They also achieved a Level 3 qualification.
The Gold Arts Award, accredited by Trinity College London, is a Level 3 qualification and carries 16 UCAS points.

How amazing is that?
We offer different levels of Arts Award at the school, but there is something particularly special about seeing our first Fashion Foundation students complete Gold.
Their win is our win, and we are still buzzing!

And now we are getting ready to welcome our new Fashion Foundation cohort this September/October.
This year, there are 2 pathways to choose from:
Part-time Fashion Foundation – Saturday pathway
Full-time Fashion Foundation – Weekday pathway

If you have a young person who is ready to develop their creative skills, build a strong fashion portfolio, explore their own creative identity and work towards their Gold Arts Award, we would love to hear from them.
Applications for the new Fashion Foundation year are open.
Find out more and apply through the link here.

We cannot wait to meet our next Fashion Foundation cohort. And once again, a HUGE congratulations to our Gold Arts Award students!
