Wake Up Wednesday

Talking to a pupil about their wellbeing can feel daunting, particularly when you are unsure what to say or worried about hearing something concerning.

Our latest guide reminds educators that they do not need to be specialists to provide meaningful support.

The guide explores:
• Building warm, trusting relationships
• Choosing a safe and appropriate place to talk
• Using side-by-side conversations to reduce pressure
• Staying calm when a pupil shares a concern
• Being clear and honest about confidentiality
• Knowing when to involve safeguarding colleagues or seek support yourself

It also includes practical conversation starters to help staff open discussions gently and give pupils space to talk when they are ready.

This week, we are proud to be supporting Dyslexia Awareness Week 2026.

As a school with a Specialist Resource Provision (SRP) for Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD), we recognise that every young person learns differently and celebrate the different ways in which our students think, learn and succeed. We are committed to helping our students understand their individual strengths, overcome barriers to learning and develop the confidence to flourish in all areas of their life.

Dyslexia is a lifelong learning profile and therefore we also celebrate our staff members who are inspirational dyslexic role-models.

Dyslexia is only one part of a person’s story. By increasing understanding and providing the right support, we can help every individual feel included, valued and able to thrive.

If you would like to know more about Dyslexia, visit: https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/dyslexia or alternatively contact the school directly and ask to speak to our Learning Support Team.

You can also watch this short film from Made by Dyslexia, who are a global charity: https://www.whatisdyslexia.org/

This week's goes to our Modern Foreign Languages Department.

🌍 On Tuesday 29 September, The Archbishop’s School celebrated the richness and diversity of languages with activities in lessons, form time and around the school. 🌍

Language-themed lesson starters encouraged students to explore different languages. Posters around the school shared fascinating language facts, and students put their memories to the test by sharing three facts in exchange for a sweet treat! 🍬

At lunchtime, our European Language Café brought together language activities, music from around the world and sweet treats for students to enjoy.

The celebration continues, with further opportunities to try the form-time activities and discover the language facts around school. Students have also asked for another Language Café, so we are exploring an opportunity to run it again!

Thank you to everyone who took part and helped bring languages to life. 🌍🗣️
