World Book Day 2026
Both staff and children enjoyed dressing up as their favourite characters for World Book Day last week. We believe that a joy of reading is one of the most important gifts we can give our children to carry through life.

Our Cosmo 🐓
Caring for our chickens teaches little hands big lessons — responsibility, empathy, and respect for living things. 🐔🌱She is also great at clearing up after snack time!

Some unexpected visitors to nursery this afternoon!
🐑 🐑
The children absolutely loved the escapee sheep that arrived in our car park this afternoon, we had a lovely chat with the farmers all about how they look after the animals.

Super proud of the carrot harvest 🥕
The children planted the seeds, have watered and weeded and then the past few weeks we have finally been able to pick their carrots!
They washed them, snipped the stalks off, and have chopped them up making them into a delicious batch of carrot soup.
At In The Sticks, we want our children to grow up understanding that a lot of time, effort and hard works goes into producing food and we try to teach our children how to minimise our own food waste. Knowing where food comes from and the effort behind growing food is so important for our children, we live in a time where such a variety foods are so easily accessible from the supermarkets however this does come with a downside that we are so far removed from the knowledge of how the food has come to get there!
We encourage the children to help collect eggs from our resident chickens on a daily basis, our chickens are fed any scraps and leftovers, and anything that chickens can’t eat gets composted. We try to make the most of anything we grow within our setting whether that’s using veg for soups, fruits for crumbles, cakes and jams and even foraged herbs for flavourings (our wild garlic and cheddar scones are a firm favourite!) . Our menu changes termly depending on what’s seasonal and we try to use local organic produce where possible.

Autumn fun 🍂
Days spent exploring the woods, meeting animals, climbing trees, painting self portraits, preparing dinner outside, building dens, dressing up, watching wildlife, weaving different materials, and always time for water play and mud kitchen madness! Endless joy!
Wonderful memories made everyday, how lucky are we to spend our days seeing the world through the eyes of children..

It’s been an emotional few weeks as we’ve said goodbye and good luck to a few of our little ones who are onto their next big adventures 🎓
We feel very grateful to have such wonderful children and parents who form this special little community we have! We really hope that although onto pastures new, you can all come back to visit us soon 🥰
Thanks to for engraving these garden tools for all our little leavers 🛠️
