Thanks to EVANS Drumheads for giving me a sneak peek of the new Attacktile practice pad. The new surface feels way more like a real drum, giving a truer response with each hit where a lot of pads give an unnatural bounce.
Here’s a video of some exercises I do before every gig. It’s nothing too technical but gets me warmed up and ready to play with Franz Ferdinand 🥁

Some bits from Mexico the other week…
I’ve always loved Ronnie’s drumming so was great to see him play up close and, of course, with the rest of the Killers!
The colour and vibrancy in Mexico is so cool. Looking forward to going back again sometime soon I hope 🇲🇽
A little bit of Do You Want To from Fronton, Mexico City. It was jumping! 🙆🏻♀️
Having a nice time in Mexico with 💁🏻♀️ 🇲🇽
Bit of Ulysses from Saturday night in Mexico City ⚡️
Looking forward to playing this Gretsch Drums USA Custom for our run here in Mexico 🇲🇽

For Kenny.
I wasn’t sure how best to honour such an influential person in my life. Somehow this felt like the way to do it.
I started going for drum lessons with Kenny when I was 10 years old. I’d watch his every move as we played along with songs. Hundreds of songs. He introduced me to so much music. He’d make me cassette tapes that I’d practise with at home on my Sony Walkman. It became a bit of a contest of who could discover the funkiest beats and we’d make each other tapes, minidiscs & CD compilations through the years.
He’d invite me to rehearsals with his band so I could get a sense of what it would be like. He asked me to come and “soundcheck the kit” for a recording session he was doing. My first experience in a studio. My mind was blown.
He showed me how to record on a Tascam 4-track. Showed me how to make a tune using a MicroKorg synth. He had roto toms, timbales, cowbells. I was in awe of his creativity and dynamism.
He nurtured my shyness and encouraged me to be bold in my playing and confident in my ideas. I owe so much to him.
And I’m just one of many people whose lives he impacted - in the greatest way.
The drumming world has lost a legend.
RIP Kenny. My hero x
Working on a little something new this week! Can’t wait to share it 👀🥁
