Magdalene alumna Julie Flower (1995)'s acclaimed 5 show, 'Grandma's Shop' is currently being performed at Edinburgh Fringe until 19 August (except 16 August) at 10.50am at theSpace at Surgeons' Hall.
It's already received 5 stars from The Sinners Review, saying 'This is what's so wonderful about the Fringe.'
Clothes, cats and counter-culture. Sheffield, 1989. Loveable, eccentric septuagenarian, Hilda, has run a second-hand clothes shop for decades. The profits feed 30 stray cats. One day, a journalist from The Guardian walks in...
Julie Flower, Hilda's granddaughter, returns to Edinburgh Fringe with her solo, multi-character show about family history subverting expectations. Step inside Grandma's shop, a nostalgic world of old carrier bags, pools coupons and vintage clothes...presided over by an unlikely punk icon.
Julie would love to welcome Magdalene alumni to the show, which celebrates the extraordinary in the everyday. And if you visit, please say hello afterwards!

"A few weeks ago, I was standing in an operating theatre during a brain surgery, watching coloured patterns appear on a monitor across the room."

July Graduations are well under way and today was a rather special one for Magdalene! Our President, Dr Nick Carroll, led the way alongside the Praelector and Head Porter, deputising for our Master, Sir Christopher Greenwood!
It's proving to be a beautiful sunshiny day for all our new graduates, which brightens our spirit as we say goodbye - for now!
Congratulations everyone; thank you for making Magdalene proud.

A lot of time and care has gone into getting the Pepys Building back to its former glory, and a big part of that has been colour.
As we get closer to it's completion, here's a selection of images from the past few months that showcase the vibrancy of the building in this transformational phase.
To add more context to these abstractions, please do look at the Pepys Progress page on our website!
