🌟Understanding Cause & Effect: Cooking teaches the first lessons in logic. Children see firsthand that adding water to flour makes dough, and that applying heat changes its texture.

🌟Connecting Food to Life: By measuring out ingredients and mixing the flour themselves, they learn exactly how raw ingredients transform into the food we eat, fostering a hands-on, meaningful relationship with what they create.

There is deep educational value in the full circle of the process: they feel the ingredients, cook the meal, and eat their own creations. The pride and joy they feel from start to finish makes all the messy fun completely worth it!

We loved welcoming all the families who joined our Open Morning—it was an absolute joy to meet you and your little ones.

Our theme was inspired by the classic book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, which we explored using a hands-on, Montessori-inspired approach.

The children had a truly immersive, full-sensory experience as they:

🍐Engaged their senses and fine motor skills through touching, slicing, and preparing the real fruits
🍓Tasted their delicious creations
🍊Learned key language concepts in both Mandarin and English

It was wonderful to watch the children engage all five senses while developing their confidence and language skills!

☀️ A Journey Around the Sun: Birthdays the Montessori Way

At The Language Nursery, birthdays aren't just about blowing out candles—they are a beautiful, meaningful ritual called the "Walk Around the Sun."

It is a deeply magical experience that helps young children visually understand time, astronomy, and history—while making the birthday child feel incredibly seen, loved, and valued.

Here is a little peek into how we honor our children’s special day:

☀️ The Setup: The children gather in a circle around a bright sun placed in the center of the room, surrounded by the twelve months of the year.

🌍 The Journey: The birthday child holds a globe representing the Earth and stands next to the month they were born. As we sing together, they walk around the sun—one full lap for every year they have been on this earth.

🌱 The Story: Each time they complete a lap, we pause to look at a photo from that year of their life. We share a special memory—like the day they took their first steps, or when they learned to ride a scooter.

We love watching our little ones grow, one beautiful lap around the sun at a time.

🛶 Happy Dragon Boat Festival! 端午节快乐！

As a Mandarin-English bilingual nursery, we bring learning to life by diving deep into the culture!

This week, our little ones celebrated the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival (端午节 - Duānwǔjié) with some amazing hands-on, bilingual activities:

🌱Scented Sachets (香包 - xiāngbāo): Children filled small pouches with different herbs to make traditional sachets—worn to bring good luck, protect health, and ward off pests.

🌈 Five-Color Lucky Strings (五彩绳 - wǔcǎishéng): We crafted these beautiful traditional bracelets, meant to protect children and bring a long, healthy life.

🛶 Dragon Boats (龙舟 - lóngzhōu): Our little adventurers got creative and designed their very own mini dragon boats!

👩‍🏫 Staff-to-Child Ratios: Standard Nurseries vs. Language Nursery

Did you know? In standard nurseries, one staff member has to take care of 8 children at the same time (for ages 3+), and 5 children for 2-year-olds.

At The Language Nursery, we do things differently. For our 2–4 mixed-age group, our staff-to-child ratios are just 1:3 and 1:4.

We haven't let the heat slow us down one bit!

We’ve been keeping cool with garden water play, enjoying shady picnics in the park, and making our very own healthy treats like fresh fruit yogurt ice lollies 🍦and homemade lemonade! 🍋

Even on the hottest days, our big indoor hall means we can still run around and enjoy our PE sessions comfortably out of the sun. 😎

🌎 Baking in Brazil! 🇧🇷

As part of our 'Traveling the World' theme, our little explorers headed to South America this week to bake Pão de Queijo—traditional Brazilian cheese bread made with tapioca flour!

We love cooking with the children because it is a true full-body learning experience. Measuring, mixing, and shaping the dough by hand does so much more than create a delicious snack; it refines their fine motor skills, strengthens coordination, and brings sensory development to life.
