🎨 Such a lovely evening on 24 September for the opening of 'Other than Words: A Sense of Release in the Presence of Art', a new exhibition at Clare Hall.

It was wonderful to see College members and guests come together to enjoy Jerry Scott’s vibrant work, with opening remarks from Professor Frances Spalding and Dr Lucia Tantardini, and reflections from the artist himself.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped create such a warm atmosphere ✨

📅 The exhibition is on display at Clare Hall until Thursday 12 November 2026 and is open for public viewing Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm.

🌍🌱♻️ We’re excited to celebrate the fantastic progress being made in sustainable catering at Clare Hall!

Over the past year, our Catering Team has introduced a range of thoughtful initiatives, from expanding plant-based choices and reducing food waste to cutting the environmental impact of meat. Clare Hall has also become the first Cambridge college to surpass the plant-based catering thresholds set out by the CamEATS ZERO Sustainable Food Initiative.

In a new article, Clare Hall students Rishul Karia (GSB Green Officer 2026/27) and Robyn Schnell (GSB Secretary 2026/27) take a closer look at the people, ideas and research behind these changes, and at what comes next.

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Professor Kevin ‘Kit’ Thompson, Associate and Life Member of Clare Hall and former Visiting Fellow in Performing Arts, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday 12 September 2026.

Professor Thompson had a distinguished international career in music, arts education and cultural leadership, and was recognised with numerous honours across the UK, Europe and Asia. His many honours included an OBE for services to the arts and cultural exchange, France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and Légion d’honneur, the Grand Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria, election to the European and American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and many more.

He leaves a remarkable legacy in the performing arts, education and cultural exchange.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and all those who knew and worked with him.

Funeral arrangements will be shared with members in due course.
