ππ What happens when a piece of a SpaceX rocket crashes into the Moon?
Girton Fellow and Public Astronomer Dr Matt Bothwell spoke to the BBC about the recent lunar impact, explaining what scientists could learn from the event, and why there was no danger to Earth.
The impact offered astronomers a rare opportunity to observe what happens when a large object hits the lunar surface, potentially helping us better understand the Moon and the effects of space debris in space.

'One of the things I value most about Girton is the people. My friends have made it feel like home, and being surrounded by such talented, thoughtful, and supportive individuals has been one of the most rewarding parts of my experience. It's a privilege to learn from academics who are not only experts in their fields but genuinely passionate about sharing their knowledge. Whether in lectures, on the netball court or over dinner in halls, Girton has given me a community that encourages me to challenge myself, celebrate others' successes, and enjoy every part of university life. I'm incredibly grateful to receive this prize.'

πβ½ From Girton to Ghana
Thanks to support from Girton's Adela Marion Adam Travel Scholarship, recent graduate Myles Eckes was able to join the Cambridge University Rugby League Football Club on a once-in-a-lifetime tour to Ghana, travelling alongside fellow Girtonians Connor Quigley, Jacques Pressley, Tom Massingham and Owen Hanford-Jackson.
Across the week, the Club played three matches, led rugby sessions for local schoolchildren, explored Ghana's capital and reflected on an experience that combined sport, cultural exchange and community engagement.

Joan Robinson never did things by the book.
On the anniversary of her death, we remember one of the twentieth century's most original economists, a Girtonian whose ideas challenged orthodox thinking and continue to shape conversations about economics today.
At a time when women at Cambridge could study but not receive degrees, Joan refused to accept conventional wisdom. She questioned assumptions, reshaped economic thought and inspired generations of economists to think differently.
Many of the questions she explored nearly a century ago, from market power to inequality, remain just as relevant today.

"Intercalating in Natural Sciences (Psychology) has been one of the highlights of my time at Girton. It gave me the chance to explore health from a range of different perspectives, including psychology, neuroscience, public health and policy, and it made me think about medicine in a much broader way. I loved the year, so I'm especially pleased that receiving this prize reflects both how much I enjoyed it and the work I put into it. I'm really grateful to Girton for such a welcoming and supportive environment, and I'm looking forward to carrying everything I've learned with me as I return to Medicine for my final three years."
Congratulations to Gina F. on receiving the John Bower Buckley Scholarship in recognition of exceptional work in Natural Sciences (Psychology) at Girton College, University of Cambridge!
