CONGRATULATIONS Joby on gaining your PPL in minimal hours! Joby Girling came to us in May and it was clear from the offset he would be an A Class student 🌟who steamed through the syllabus, reaching first solo at 10:00hrs. Joby’s connection to Cambridge Airport goes back a long way:

“I’ve been around aviation for as long as I can remember. Growing up next to Cambridge Airport, I spent years watching the aircraft fly overhead and dreaming about one day flying myself, although I never really thought it would be possible. I’m now incredibly lucky to be able to fly from the same airport I grew up watching, and I’m the fourth generation of my family to have a connection to the airport, but the first to become a pilot.

I’ve always had a particular love for light aircraft and aviation history, and for over five years I’ve volunteered as ground crew on vintage warbirds. It’s therefore been a real privilege to learn to fly at Cambridge Aero Club, with its own long history in aviation.

My PPL training has been an amazing summer of flying. Despite the challenges of weather and aircraft serviceability, the club and my instructors have been incredibly supportive throughout, and I’m very grateful for the high standard of training and everyone who helped me achieve my PPL.

One of the highlights was flying into Duxford, somewhere I’ve visited since I was a child and have spent years working around warbirds. To fly there as a solo pilot was a pretty special moment.

I’m now looking forward to what comes next, with plans to gain some tailwheel experience and hopefully work towards flying warbirds, before ultimately pursuing a career in commercial aviation.” ✈️ From all of the team here, we have no doubt you have an exciting future in the world of Warbirds 🍾

Congratulations to Lovely Lucas who has passed his PPL skills test in style 🙌 🎉 Lucas took advantage of the Fabulous weather in little NB with examiner Ed and proved all his efforts have been worthwhile 🌟 He said of his journey thus far: “Huge milestone achieved — I’m proud to have passed my UK Part-FCL PPL(A) Skill Test and officially become a Private Pilot!

All of the instructors and staff have been incredibly supportive throughout my training, providing support, guidance and professionalism every step of the way. It’s no surprise that Cambridge Aero Club is an Approved Training Organisation (ATO) recognised by the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Thank you to everyone who helped me reach this goal — I’m excited for the next chapter and many more hours in the sky!”
…And we 💯 % did not pay Lucas to say that..! 💰 💰 💰 But seriously, well done - you’ve worked really hard for this!
