On 4 June we were delighted to welcome distinguished guests to College to celebrate the Feast of Corpus Christi.
The day began with a Choral Eucharist, after which the choir sang motets on New Court lawn. In the afternoon the Parker Library showcased the College silver along with a new exhibition: Travellers and Scriptures: Looking East at the Parker.
Ahead of the Feast in Hall, the evening celebrations began with festal Choral Evensong for Name Day, with a sermon from the Dean of Birmingham Cathedral, Very Revd Matt Thompson, (m.1987), followed by the admission of Baroness Katherine Willis CBE (m.1986) and Murray Gold (m.1988) as Honorary Fellows.

Edward Higginbottom gained early experience as Organ Scholar of Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge (1966-69) where he later pursued postgraduate and doctoral research. Appointed Director of Music at New College, Oxford in 1976, Edward Higginbottom transformed the Choir's activity, profile and reputation through tours, broadcasts and more than 100 recordings. Since his retirement from New College in 2014, he has continued to lead a busy career as conductor and recitalist, and is presently Principal Conductor of Instruments of Time and Truth.

Award winning composer, musician and conductor John Cameron (m.1962) will host an informal gathering on Sunday 19 July at the Royal Festival Hall ahead of Kes: Live Soundtrack, which forms part of the Rough Trade 50 weekend.
This special screening of Kes, Ken Loachโs landmark 1969 coming of age film set in Yorkshire, will feature a live performance of John Cameronโs original score by the acclaimed Elysian Collective, with an introduction from Jarvis Cocker.
This is a special opportunity to meet John and hear more about his remarkable career in music. We will be meeting from 3.30pm-4pm.
John is one of Britainโs most versatile and influential composers and arrangers, with a career spanning film, television, theatre, and pop music. After early success arranging hits for folk-pop artist Donovan and writing songs recorded by artists including Cilla Black and Johnny Johnson and the Bandwagon, he went on to score more than 50 films, including Ken Loachโs Kes and A Touch of Class (for which he was Oscar nominated), as well as major television dramas such as the Emmy winning Jack the Ripper.
Among his numerous successes in the world of theatre, John arranged and conducted the concept album for the 1979 Paris production of Les Miserables, going on to write the orchestral score for every production until 2006. His score is still the basis for the present show.
If you wish to attend the gathering with John, please contact [email protected]

Last week, the Corpus Admissions Team travelled to the North East to meet with parents and carers of potential Oxbridge candidates. They shared useful insights into life at Cambridge, the levels of support available, along with useful tips and guidance on how to support the students through the application process.
This work, which is supported by philanthropic funding, is an extension of the Corpus Teacher Circle, established last year to support teachers in North East England in developing their students and raise aspirations.
