⚡️As quick as a flash

👩‍🏫 We often use the structure ‘as + adjective + as + (a) ________’ when we want to compare actions, people, things, or places with some kind of imagery. This way the person listening has a better idea of what we’re trying to say. For example, ‘he was as quiet as a mouse’, ‘she’s as sweet as honey’ or ‘you’re as pretty as a picture’.

✍️ Have you heard of any of these types of phrases before? Do you know any others? ⬇️

🤦‍♀️ What a debacle!

I use this word often when something has gone wrong, even if it’s not that serious 😅 I like to exaggerate my point!

✍️ Can you use it in a sentence to give an example of what might be a debacle for you?

Oh mate, tell him to get in the bin 🗑️

This is one of my most used expressions for people that have annoyed me 😅 If one of my friends tells me about a bad experience they’ve had with someone, I always say “well, they can get in the bin” 🤷‍♀️ It’s a nicer way of saying, “they can f*** off” 😆

Have you used or heard this expression before?

☕️ On our last episode of ‘Fancy A Cuppa?’ recommended a visit to The Fens, primarily the area outside of Cambridge near the city of Ely in the East of England.

🌿 There’s a National Trust property out there called and it protects a huge area of The Fens and is a wonderful place to explore and see wildlife.

👩‍🏫 A fen is an area of marshy, flat wet land in England. Normally it would be written with a lower case ‘f’ but if you’re referring to the specific geographic area of marshland and flat plains that run across Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk and Suffolk then you capitalise it as a proper noun - ‘The Fens’. It’s a very biodiverse area, which means it has many different types of plants and animals. Some species can only be found in fenland areas.

✍️ Have you visited before? What did you think of the landscape? Would you like to visit?

It’s not rocket science! 🤷‍♀️ (unlike space travel)

👩‍🚀 Fun fact: my dad and I went to see one of the last ever space shuttle launches in Florida, before they shut down the program. It was an experience I will never forget ✨

✍️ What isn’t rocket science for you? I don’t think baking is hard, but I imagine for some people it IS like rocket science 😆
