A lot of preparation goes into the residential weeks both at Anglia Ruskin University and at the Eden Project.

There are:
💻 Lots of Teams Meetings
💻 Lots of creating and adapting materials
💻 Lots of desk-based, screen based work that we absolutely need to get done.
🌳 But also....
recce trips in the countryside...

As we look forward to welcoming our new students on the first residential next week, current Course Director Davide Natalini along with former Course Director Alison Greig went on a recce trip (with Alison's dog Teilo) to the Cambridgeshire fens after the devastating peat wildfire at Holme Fen this summer, to check accessibility of the sites. Verdict.... all good to go for our first field trip next week with extra food for thought!

The fens are one of our case studies where social and ecological dynamics make an ecosystem very complex, but also very interesting to study. Think peat shrinkage, agricultural heritage, draining of the fens etc.

Systems thinking is a core element of the course. Once you start thinking in systems, you can't not think in systems.
