Each week I share a featured playlist from my YouTube channel, chosen to match the maths topics different year groups are currently learning.
This week, many Y7 and Y8 pupils will be doing algebra.

This week’s featured playlist: Linear equations

The playlist begins with the basics, introducing the concept of balancing equations. Each video moves on to the next step, so pupils (and parents) can begin with the level that feels more comfortable for them.

For year six maths, most pupils will now be working on calculations - usually beginning with addition and subtraction.

This week’s featured maths video playlist focuses on written methods for solving addition and subtraction questions.

As it’s World Book Day, I wondered how many parents of GCSE pupils have memories of having to read books they hated when they were at school.
Have you revisited any in adulthood? Would you consider reading one of your child’s exam texts so you could help them?

With that in mind, I’ve compiled a short list of just some of the current exam texts I’ve enjoyed in adulthood. Can I tempt any parents to try one? Maybe you’ll enjoy it more than you did when you were sixteen 😃

Here’s a challenge: if you multiply together all the numbers on a phone keypad, what would be the answer?

I saw this question posted on Facebook recently and was surprised by some of the comments. This made me realise that just because something seems obvious to some, it’s not obvious to everyone.
