Mark sparked in me what has become a lifelong passion for improvisation, learning music by ear, jazz, transcription, composition and generally having fun with piano. He would regularly seek out my underlying motivations by asking me what I wanted to learn and crafting his teaching around my interests, all while building sufficiently structured lessons to guide me from zero experience with improvisation to passing top grade ABRSM jazz piano.

I could easily have quit music altogether as a child, but thanks in no small part to being fortunate enough to have Mark as a teacher, I now have a rewarding career as a composer and make daily use of the skills I first developed in his lessons."
