Work, play, and community spirit at our Michaelmas Festival!
What an unforgettable day coming together as a Waldorf Cambridge family to celebrate courage, harvest, and connection.
We began our day with the magical return of the Michaelmas Play, with Classes 1 to 5 taking on different roles to show the taming of the dragon. Michaelmas is all about finding our inner strength and transforming challenge into harmony, and our students brought that story to life so beautifully.
Throughout the day, mixed-age groups bonded across a fantastic blend of activities:
Pressing fresh apples into sweet autumn juice, crafting dragons and baking traditional dragon bread, litter picking to care for our local community, tackling obstacles with courage and energy.
To wrap up the celebrations, we gathered for games and a very special tradition: our Oak Tree students presenting our new Acer Tree pupils with their handmade wooden swords—symbolising courage and strength as they begin their school journey.

The children are already asking to do it all over again!
A heartfelt thank you to our amazing staff, who pulled together traditions old and new to create such a brilliant festival day for everyone.

Another sweet Friday in Acacia Tree last week as a parent of the class visited to share her experiences of celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival at home in Singapore. The class heard the tale of Chang-e, and had the chance to try some traditional mooncake!

As the full moon shines at its roundest and brightest, we are reminded of the beauty of connection, gratitude and togetherness 💜

Language learning at Waldorf Cambridge begins at 6 years old, and it goes far beyond simply memorizing words.

Out of the classroom and into the woods!

Our Year 10s spent time immersed in the heart of the woods, stepping away from screens and electricity to connect with the living world around them.

Working side-by-side in nature, the students dove deep into the realities of sustainable forest management:

Exploring traditional coppicing techniques and comparing the impact of heavy machinery versus hand tools.

Studying forest ecosystems and biodiversity, and identifying the impact of invasive species.

Engaging in thoughtful discussions on the ethics of deer management and moving toward more sustainable food systems.

Beyond the learning, the week was about connection. Off-grid life meant gathering around the open fire to cook meals, sharing stories under the stars, building a stronger class community, and of course eating an absolute pile of marshmallows!

A huge thank you to everyone who made this transformative experience possible.

We know our low-tech approach works, but it’s nice when others agree! 💜

Have Steiner schools been acknowledged for our pioneering stand? Finally, yes.

Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn (CECG) recently acknowledged Steiner education as they review their own approach to technology in schools.

“…although it has to be said that the Steiner education movement has been running integrated curricula in a low-tech environment for a long time and has often been criticised as anti-progress and old-fashioned. The new research showing how the brain works in learning that is driving programs.... now reveals it was on to something.“

The wider sector is now arriving at the same understanding. Thank you CECG for the acknowledgement. The evidence is in on the impact of technology and social media on young people.

Seventy years of Steiner education in Australia. Now on the record: we were on to something.

A Sweet New Year in Class 3! ✨
Today, our Class 3 students are celebrating Shana Tova (the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah)!
In a Waldorf school, the Class 3 curriculum explores Hebrew legends. These foundational stories beautifully mirror the "nine-year change"—a developmental milestone where children begin to experience themselves as independent individuals navigating the wider world. To bring these rich classroom stories to life, the children are marking this special festival today. They are reflecting on fresh starts and enjoying the traditional treat of apples dipped in honey to welcome a sweet year ahead.
