Meet Mark 👋
When executive chef Mark began studying with us at 51, he already had a global culinary career spanning Michelin-starred restaurants, luxury hotels, and royal venues.
“Cambridge was always a dream for me, and I remember thinking: ‘Why not give it a go?’”
With no prior university experience, he joined the Undergraduate Certificate in English Literature: Texts and Contexts, beginning his academic journey from scratch while balancing a demanding international career.
“In the beginning, I felt out of place - Cambridge is for other people, not me. But every tutor made me feel welcome.”
Through flexible study and strong academic support, Mark built confidence and progressed through Certificate and Diploma level study while developing a sustainable approach to learning around his work and travel.
“Cambridge gave me confidence. The tutors were kind, the presentations were fantastic, and the students came from every background. We connected as one.”
Mark has since progressed to a BA (Hons) in English Literature with The Open University, after successfully transferring credits gained through his studies at PACE.
“If I can do it, so can you. Stop self-doubting and take the leap. It’s the most rewarding thing you’ll do.”
