Celebrating the ‘Mother of Modern Dance’ born on this day 1877

Isadora Duncan, the celebrated dance pioneer known as the "Mother of Modern Dance," was born on this day in 1877. The trailblazing American dancer and choreographer was famous for introducing freer forms of movement into dance, marking a shift from the rigid technique of traditional ballet. This emphasis on more naturalistic movement is considered the precursor to modern dance techniques. Her dance style was influenced by folk dances, classical Greek arts, social dances, and natural forces; as she once wrote "let them come forth with great strides, leaps and bounds, with lifted forehead and far-spread arms, to dance."

Isadora Duncan is among the 21 extraordinary women featured in "She Did It! 21 Women Who Changed the Way We Think" for ages 10 and up at https://www.amightygirl.com/she-did-it

For two excellent books to introduce kids to a wide range of women in the arts, we recommend "Women Artists A to Z" for ages 6 to 10 (https://www.amightygirl.com/women-artists-a-to-z) and "Women in Art: 50 Fearless Creatives Who Inspired the World" for ages 9 and up (https://www.amightygirl.com/women-in-art)
