"Celtic spirituality uses the term a 'thin place' to describe locations where heaven and earth seem closer to each other. When I am in St John's church Little Gidding I am in one of those places."

CTF Annual Research Day 2026: Giving Voice to Theology

The CTF Annual Research Day was hosted a month ago at Ridley Hall on the 11th of May on the theme, ‘Giving Voice to Theology: Context, Theological Method, and Impact’. The conference kicked off with a brilliant keynote by Dr Bekah Fairley, ‘Exploring How Women Find their Voice in the Pulpit’, and concluded with a celebration (with tasty cakes!) of recent publications. In between we feasted on a rich array of short papers, including several by members from MBI’s research community on topics such as ecumenism; the maternal theological voice; and the incarnation and AI. Our Director of Pastoral Care and Spiritual Practice, Zinia Pritchard, then led CTF worship at Fisher House Catholic Chaplaincy. Many thanks to all from the CTF, and especially those from our own community at MBI, who made this such a memorable day.

*Thanks to Joseph Gabor for the Pictures, and Elizabeth Powell for the text💝

The Margaret Beaufort Institute’s ‘Pope Francis Doctoral Bursary’ invites applications from students wishing to pursue doctoral research in the field of ecclesial ethics with a research focus on Synodality as a pathway for ecclesial renewal.

The successful applicant will undertake research that creatively engages with the Synod’s Final Document, the Final Reports of the Synod’s Study Groups and other sources of wisdom that might include Catholic Social Teaching and their own lived experience to imaginatively respond to the critical ecclesial challenges that they identify within their own ecclesial context.

Academic supervision and support will be offered to accompany the successful applicant throughout their research.
