Celebrating Excellence in Writing for Children

The Philippa Pearce Memorial Lectures are a series of talks delivered by distinguished speakers with an interest in children’s books. The lectures have no fixed topic, but we hope that they will all tend to reflect Philippa Pearce’s own wide-ranging literary interests in, for example, the short story, the ghost story, the picture book and, of course, the novel. 2022 Pearce Lecture: Anniversary Event: Geraldine McCaughrean IN 2020 IT WOULD HAVE BEEN 100 years since the birth of Philippa Pearce, but, sadly, our celebrations had to be canceled. However we are delighted to announce that the special Anniversary Event will now take place on Thursday 14th April 2022.

With regret, we have decided to postpone the Philippa Pearce lecture and centenary celebrations that were scheduled to take place on 26th March, to support the effort to prevent the further spread of Covid-19. We will be in touch as soon as we can to provide further information about the rescheduled event. All booked tickets will remain valid for the new date. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Booking is now open for the 2019 lecture, to be given by Jacqueline Wilson and entitled, Be Careful What You Wish For!

The lecture will take place at 5.00pm on the 11th of April in the Mary Allan Building, Homerton College, Cambridge, CB2 8PH. After the lecture there will be a short wine reception.

Both lecture and reception are free.

Philippa Pearce Lecture: January 2018 Newsletter PHILIPPA PEARCE died in 2006, but respect and affection for her writing is as strong as ever. In her memory, a series of lectures is now underway, each intended to celebrate excellence in literature for children and to emphasize its continuing vital importance.
