Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, University of Cambridge

At Cambridge, we believe that chemical engineering and biotechnology have a key role to play in global issues such as the environment, sustainability and healthcare. Our aim is to produce the academic, industrial and entrepreneurial leaders of tomorrow, and to create advances in chemical engineering and biotechnology through working at the interfaces with the underpinning science disciplines of chemistry, biology and physics.

Congratulations to department alum Dr Wenxin Mao, who has received a Royal Society Newton International Fellowships Alumni Award πŸ”¬

Wenxin was a Newton International Fellow at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology from 2024 to 2026.

His research centres on developing efficient methods with high production yield for crystalline semiconducting materials, including halide perovskites.

Congratulations Wenxin!

Industry student support network (ISSN) 07/08/2026

Missed this week's information webinar on our new Industry Student Support Network (ISSN)?

Launching in October, the ISSN will create a valuable connection between industry and undergraduate students in the Department. The network is designed to give students greater access to career guidance, industry insights, networking opportunities and internships, while enabling organisations to connect with some of the UK's most talented future chemical engineers and biotechnologists.

Members will have opportunities to engage through careers events, industry talks, skills workshops and recruitment initiatives, including the ISSN launch event, a Network Careers Fair in October.

If you couldn't join the webinar but would like to learn more, visit the ISSN webpage and register your interest:
