I’m already getting excited about autumn... 🍂
Not because I want a whole new wardrobe.
Because I love the feeling of choosing a few really great pieces that work beautifully with everything I already own.
I’m also deep into creating this year’s Autumn/Winter Edit, and I honestly think it’s going to be my best one yet.
Would you like me to let you know when it’s ready?
🍂 Just comment AUTUMN below and I’ll add you to the list.

Before every holiday, I try on every outfit I think I’m going to take.

Not because I’m super organised.
Because it’s the quickest way to work out what still works, what needs styling differently, and which shoes actually deserve a place in the suitcase.
This red dress is at least seven years old.
I nearly left it behind.
Instead, I changed how I styled it.
A higher tan belt... or no belt at all.
Rolled sleeves.
A relaxed hessian bag.
Suddenly it felt casual, current and completely like me again.
I didn’t need a new dress.
I just needed to style an old favourite in a more modern way.
Save this before your next holiday. Taking an hour to style your outfits before you pack makes getting dressed easier, your suitcase lighter, and means you’ll spend far less time wondering what to wear once you’re there.

I spend most of the year talking about buying better basics.

But August is the exception.
The shops are in that funny in-between stage.
Your favourite summer pieces still have plenty of wear left in them, but the really brilliant autumn basics haven’t all landed yet.
So this is when I look for the fashion pieces.
Not something random.
Something that works with everything I already own.
A beautiful blouse/shirt
A knit in a colour I love.
A piece that gives my summer wardrobe a fresh feel now, then carries effortlessly into autumn.
Think of it as the glue between seasons.
It buys you time until the really great tailoring, coats and trousers arrive... and when they do, ..you’ve already got the piece that brings everything else to life.
So tell me... are you a basics-first shopper, or do you always fall for the fashion pieces?

Since I bought these shorts a couple of weeks ago, I haven’t had them off.

Great fit. Great wash. They seem to just work! (I find that quite difficult with shorts)

I also know they’ll still be working for me when summer starts to fade into autumn.
That’s the way I shop.
I don’t just buy for the weather we’re having today.
I think about how something will work a few weeks - or even a few months - from now.
Can I wear it now with a T-shirt and sandals?
Can I throw on an oversized knit when the mornings and evenings get cooler?
Will I still be reaching for it in September?
If the answer’s yes, it’s much more likely to earn a place in my wardrobe.
These shorts have definitely done that.
I’ve linked them because I know so many of you like it when I share pieces I’m genuinely wearing and loving.

I love this wash because it really shows off the quality of the denim, but they also come in chocolate and a darker rinse wash if that’s more your style.

You might already own the perfect outfit you keep looking for.

It’s just hanging in your wardrobe as two separate pieces.

A top + trouser in the same colour creates that lovely continuous line we associate with a jumpsuit.

Then comes the important bit: create waist definition.
Tuck it. Crop it. Ruche it. Belt it.
Wide leg, barrel leg - both work. You’re creating shape rather than cutting yourself in half.

And once you’ve got that simple foundation, you can change the whole conversation.
Navy + loafer + structured bag = polished.
Chocolate + flat sandal = relaxed.
Red + heel + jewellery = dressed up.
And any of them with a white top and trainer takes you straight back to casual.
Same styling logic. Completely different places to go.

Save this one and next time you’re staring into your wardrobe, find two pieces in the same colour and create the jumpsuit you didn’t buy.

Sometimes you think getting back into your old clothes is the goal.

And yes, when they finally fasten again, it feels good.
But then comes the part nobody really talks about.
Do you actually want to dress exactly as you did before?
Because perhaps the change in your body has shifted something else too.

You feel stronger. More confident. Ready to be seen again.
And suddenly those clothes you’ve been waiting to get back into aren’t the answer.
They’re simply something you can start with.
Same jeans.
A different version of me wearing them.
And maybe a different way of dressing me too.
Your old clothes fitting again doesn’t mean going back to your old style.
If your body has changed recently and you’re finding your style hasn’t quite caught up yet, tell me below. I’d love to know if this resonates.
