Peace - named Oxford Children’s Word of the Year 2025 by Oxford University Press.

35% of children chose Peace. Other contenders were AI and. Resilience. The 2025 research from surveyed opinions from almost 5,000 children across the UK aged 6–14, and highlighted children’s awareness of current affairs.

Ewa-Lilian Adams -
24 October 1931 - 13 January 2026.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Ewa, “Mrs Adams” passing in January 2026 at the age of ninety-four.
A remarkable woman whose life has touched so many of our lives, in all corners of the world.

Ewa-Lilian Adams was the founding principal at Cambridge Academy of English in 1975, and she remained closely connected with the school throughout our 50 years.

Ewa visited the CAE summer school in July 2025 as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations! Ewa was our VIP Guest of Honour and she sparkled, as glamorous and engaging as always - full of stories and life advice for children, teenagers and adults alike. It was a real honour to have Ewa celebrate this milestone with us in person, and we know she loved it too! 50 years and counting! What an achievement! What a legacy! “English is a weapon for Peace” she said. So let’s use it wisely.

With deep respect and gratitude. Rest in Peace, Mrs Adams.

A life well lived is a life never forgotten (anon).

John Barnett, CAE Honorary Principal reflects on a momentous April 2025. What a month!
“It was an honour to represent CAE at the prestigious IALC Workshop in Auckland in early April. The workshop coincided with CAE’s 50th anniversary year - an incredible achievement in international language training. The warmth and respect shown to CAE throughout the workshop meant a great deal, and it was a pleasure to meet up with so many overseas partners. Several of them told me with great fondness of their visits to CAE in the past. They also told me how English language courses at CAE had made a real difference to their students in recent decades. Another New Zealand highlight was the chance to present my fourth children’s book in the Windy B series. ‘The Storm Rescue’ was also published in April. What a month!”
And did you know… John celebrated his birthday in Auckland too… after years of practice… he’s no April Fool!😎😂🥰

April 2025 marks our 50th anniversary! And we are delighted to be celebrating all year long – and in so many ways.
Most important will be reconnecting with many of the thousands of students who have joined us over these past fifty years.
