Jonathan Beckett joins CATS Cambridge as Deputy Head (Academic), bringing extensive leadership experience in academic strategy, curriculum development and student achievement from some of the UK's leading independent schools.
Jonathan joins from Stoke College, where as Deputy Head (Academic) he led whole-school academic strategy across Key Stages 3–5, transforming systems for teaching, learning and student progress. During his tenure, he introduced a new academic tracking framework that contributed to a significant increase in A Level Value Added within two years, alongside improvements in GCSE outcomes. He also led curriculum and timetable reviews, staff development, quality assurance and university progression, while playing a key role in supporting international student recruitment and school improvement initiatives.
Prior to this, Jonathan spent over five years at Oxford International College, where he was Director of Global Strategic Pathways and a member of the Senior Management Team. He was responsible for academic progress, university admissions strategy and international pathways, while also teaching Mathematics and Chemistry. His students consistently achieved exceptional outcomes, with 98% attaining A*/A grades at A Level, and he was recognised by students as the school's best teacher for four consecutive years.
Jonathan began his career in scientific research at the University of Oxford under Professor Sir Walter Bodmer, where he worked on a major genomics FP7 project (the precursor to Horizon 2020 grants) before moving into education, bringing with him a strong evidence-based approach to school leadership and continuous improvement. He holds an MChem from Hertford College, University of Oxford, and a Postgraduate Certificate in International Education from the University of Bath.
At CATS Cambridge, Jonathan will lead the school's academic strategy, working closely with colleagues to further strengthen teaching and learning, enhance student outcomes and ensure every learner is supported to achieve their full potential.

It's moments like these that make us proud to be part of such a vibrant, global community, one that brings people together across borders.
In this instance, our student Alper had the incredible opportunity to meet and play football with Dr. Michael Lehan, a former NFL player for the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns who is now the Head of School at CATS Academy Boston! ✨
“It's been an absolute joy to have you with us and we really appreciate your individual contribution to the life of the college.”
At CATS Cambridge, we are proud to have built a community powered by students and staff alike, where every contribution, no matter how small is valued.
To the Class of 2026, wishing you every success with your next steps!
