Confidence and self-esteem are crucial for the growth and development of young people everywhere especially those in refugee camps and forcibly displaced communities.

If we have high self-esteem we feel good about ourselves and the reverse holds true if our self esteem is low.

Trying to responsibly lead young Cameroonians, Nigerians or Ghanaians into possible education and career paths can be challenging if they do not see themselves as any good based on the trauma, berievements and hardship they have been through especially due to circumstances beyond their control and faults which are none of theirs.

Taking them through the journey of rebuilding their confidence, self worth and self esteem is predominantly what they need before delving into discussions surrounding possible future education and career possibilities; and that is what we do.

The lack of access to quality education is worsening the already dire socio-economic crisis plaguing the Anglophone regions of Cameroon. Pressure from Anglophone civil society prompted some separatist groups to formally call off the school boycott in 2020, but attacks on schools continue unabated right up until today.

Overall, the conflict has severely harmed the education system. Schools that are still operational are often damaged or overcrowded. Teachers have fled without being replaced. Parents who can afford to do so are now sending their children to schools in the Francophone regions.

Nine out of ten regions of Cameroon continue to be impacted by one of three humanitarian crisis; The crisis in the Northwest and Southwest, conflict in the Far North and a refugee crisis with people fleeing the Central African Republic.

Because of these combined crises, over one million children and youths need urgent education support.

Since 2016, there has been growing cases of trauma and mental health concerns among youths who are victims of the anglophone crisis in Cameroon. This hinders their ability and inclination towards studies, personal development, capacity building and career progression.

We will be going live on Saturday 05th of November 2022 at 18:00pm to answer all the questions our existing and new community members may have.

The session will contain the following:

- A safe space for recent high school graduates and career starters in Cameroon going through tough times (such as mental and psychological breakdown due to the anglophone crisis) to speak to us and share what they are going through. As a community, we will attempt a solution to them even it's temporal solution.

- Secondly, we will focus on those whose ambition and dream is not necessarily to travel abroad to the UK or Canada to further their studies and careers. We shall therefore, offer local counselling and use our network on ground in Cameroon, Nigeria and Ghana to signpost them towards the right people and institutions to see them walk towards their dream.

- Lastly there will be space for all our community members to ask any questions they might have and we will be there to clarify.

- Zoom link will circulate around ONLY to Bambridge Abroad Community members on Saturday morning 05th of November 2022.

*Advantages of applying early to your course*

As an objective person that you are [or should be] planning ahead and doing things early enough has always paid off bountifully.

Applying to your chosen course at home or abroad should also be one of those things you do early as you get the opportunity. There is no need for procrastination.

Often times, admission officers and faculty heads review and make decisions on applications on a rolling basis. This means that putting in your application in time would imply that you quickly get a feedback as soon as they next sit as a panel (as in some cases) to decide on it.

In 2021 few of our community members intended to apply for the January session to their school of choice in the UK but were instead offered a place for September 2021 simply because they did not apply in time and before their offer letters were sent out, it was impossible for them to go through the visa interview procedures and make their way to England in time without exceeding the cut off date of when they had to had signed-in on campus.

Their academic results were excellent, they had met the English language requirement, their bank statement met the minimum threshold etc but they could NOT sit their desired session just because they did not put in their application in time.

This is an important message to all community members of Bambridge Abroad especially those who have chosen to further their studies in the UK or Canada.

We express our gratitude to those who made use of our service and are now currently in the UK and Canada for their course which started few weeks back in September 2022.

We also want to use this opportunity to say to those who are awaiting a study offer or Conditional Offer of Acceptance for January/September 2023 that you are advised to look out for two important things at the moment.

Firstly, you are advised to create time and study for the International English Exams such as IELTS or TOEFL test.

Secondly, get your bank statements ready and ensure your proof of funds is in YOUR PERSONAL BANK ACCOUNT or that of your parents as opposed to your proof of funds being in an account of other relatives such as brother, sister, uncle or aunt. You risk being denied a visa in such a situation.

Getting your bank statement ready for maturity means holding it up at least 28 days with the minimum amount required to fund your studies and cost of living in the United Kingdom for example.

This is to ensure that as soon as you receive your offer letter, you are ready to move to the next steps of the process without delays as time is very crucial for students seeking to study abroad.
