One day until the PGCE end of year ceremony!

Think that you have to have a private school background to do the PGCE at Cambridge?

The simple answer is - no! At the Faculty of Education we believe in the importance of quality education for all, and are champions of excellence in state school education.

We almost exclusively place our PGCE students in state schools for their placements*. We also don't care where you went to school, or studied for your degree. Provided you meet our entry requirements, we will consider your application.

To apply for the course, we ask that you have achieved (or are in the final year of) a 2:1 degree. For Secondary applicants, this degree should be in a relevant subject.

We also ask that students have GCSEs in English and Maths, or an international equivalent. Primary applicants must also have a GCSE in Science.

All overseas qualifications must have a Statement of Comparability from ENIC at the point of application.

We are still accepting applications for Biology, Latin with Classics, Modern Languages, and Music until the end of June for September 2026 entry.

Applications for all of our courses for September 2027 entry will open in October.

If you would like to sign up to one of our upcoming Open Days or find out more about the Cambridge PGCE, visit our website at https://www.educ.cam.ac.uk/courses/pgce/

*Students on our Latin with Classics PGCE course may be placed in independent schools due to the availability of placements

Two days until the PGCE end of year ceremony!

Wondering what the experience of the PGCE is like as an international student?

The Cambridge PGCE has students from around the world. While our course is tailored to providing guidance and training for teaching in state schools in England, the experiences of overseas applicants enriches the course immeasurably.

If you're interested in applying to the Cambridge PGCE, there are some parts of the application you'll need to be aware of:
🌍️ All overseas qualifications are required to have a Statement of Comparability from ENIC (regardless of if the candidate is from overseas)
🌎️ All candidates are required to have a GCSE in English and Maths (and Science for Primary candidates), or an overseas equivalent. We are able to accept an in-date IELTS (with a 7 in each component) in lieu of a GCSE in English
🌏️ All interviews for the PGCE are in-person at the Faculty of Education in Cambridge. This is a core safeguarding requirement of the course.

We are still accepting applications for Biology, Latin with Classics, Modern Languages, and Music until the end of June for September 2026 entry.

Applications for all of our courses for September 2027 entry will open in October.
