👨‍👩‍👧 🌍 All About Me 👨‍👩‍👧 🌍

Over the past three weeks, we have explored 'all about me', 'all about my family' and 'all about my body'.

In each room, children were supported with learning to recognise their own features, names and what makes them special as well as what family is to them 🥰

Babies used their hands and brushes to discover their family pictures and home country flags underneath oats. They also were engaged within mirror play and interactive songs involving body parts 👋

Preschool took part in a 5 senses activity and were able to learn the names and uses of various body parts and senses such as sight, touch, hearing, smell and taste. They described items as soft, smelling like washing powder and feeling like ice 👁️ 🗣️

🦀 🐚 Beaches and Fossils 🦀 🐚

Recently, our theme has been 'beaches and fossils' to round up summer before heading into a new season 🦑

Preschool learnt how beaches are homes for lots of living creatures. By researching about rock pools or beach findings, they discussed what they could find like crabs, snails and sea anemones 🪸

Following on, they also learnt about how fossils are clues from plants and animals that lived a long time ago. Preschool roleplayed being fossil hunters; using paintbrushes to gently brush the sand to discover hidden bones, shells and fossils 🖌

Toddlers and babies were engaged within sensory experiences which allowed them to explore textures, weight and changes when playing in sand and water. Toddlers were supported with vocabulary such as words like 'shell, slimy, smooth and rough' 💦

👨‍🍳🍽 Mealtimes at Marleigh 🍽👨‍🍳

At Marleigh, we prioritise the health and well-being of our children. That's why our chef, Christos, prepares nutritious, fresh meals on site each day. These meals are free from salt and sugar as well as Christos accommodating to any dietary preferences or allergies. We offer three meals a day at Marleigh which are breakfast, hot lunch and tea alongside snacks 🍓🥘🍴

Our menu changes with each session, ensuring a wide range of foods. We follow a 4-week rotation, incorporating various cultural cuisines to expose children to different textures and tastes as well as creating home from home environment 🍅

Additionally, we provide different vegetable options as side dishes, giving the children choices to complement their meals. To promote independence and responsibility, children also serve their own meals and scrape their own plates. We find that involving children in the meal process, they feel a greater sense of control and enjoy their food which often leads to having a second serving ❤️

Adults also dine alongside children to encourage healthy eating habits. This not only serves as role model for healthy eating but also creates social experiences 🥰

⛴⚓Sea Transport⛴⚓

For our last transport-themed week, our topic was 'sea transport' across all three rooms.

Preschool started by having discussions on why heavy objects float and how boat shapes help them to stay on top of the water. This followed on by having sink or float experiments with a variety of objects found.

Toddlers delved into learning the difference between small boats and very large ships and what they may carry like everyday items and foods 🍌

Babies explored a range of sensory activities such as pushing boats in water showing how their actions can make things move and create ripples. Our focus words were 'boat', 'ship', 'splash', 'on'.

🥰A Thank you to our Parents🥰

Over the past week, we have said goodbye to our preschoolers as they prepare for their next big step - starting school in September!

We wanted to say a huge thank you for all of the gifts and kind words from our parents. We also wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for entrusting your children to our care at the nursery. We feel incredibly proud to be apart of their journey here at Marleigh 🥰

✈ 🚀Air Transport ✈🚀

Our theme over the past week has been 'Air Transport' and each room has delved into different sectors.

In preschool room, they had discussions about how different vehicles like aeroplanes, helicopters and hot-air balloons help people travel short and long distances to new cities and countries🚁

Preschool and toddlers followed our Marleigh Airlines and flew to different countries using passports and boarding passes. One child added 'I wear headphones on the plane, it makes my ears go funny'.

Children observed how things move in the air, exploring concepts like wind, floating like a hot air balloon and engine power like jets and rockets. They used specific names such as pilot, runway, helicopter blades and jet 🛩

💙Meet our team - Alice💙

Alice is our lovely baby room leader and we are delighted to welcome her back. Alice was our baby room leader when we first opened back in 2022 and later left to travel the world.

Alice is described as 'creative, kind-hearted and passionate about early years' by her colleagues 🥰

'Hello, my name is Alice and I am the baby room leader at Monkey Puzzle Marleigh. I received my Level 3 qualification in 2020 and worked in childcare for over 6 years now. My personal passions include travelling the world, creating art and spending time with family. I also love to try ethnic foods 🍜

🏖🍧Marleigh Summer Party - Parent Event🏖🍧

Last week, our parents were invited in to celebrate our Summer Party in the garden.

There were various activities for children and parents to explore together such as boat fishing, playdough patterns, superhero drawings and a beach tray ⛱️

Our baby parents were also involved in water play, singing nursery rhymes and playing peek-a-boo in the tunnel. All parents were able to have conversations with one another sharing advice, forming friendships and building a bigger support network 🥰

🚍🎡Bus Ride - Land Vehicles🚍🎡

During our theme of 'land vehicles' last week, preschool headed off to London for the day via bus 🚌

First of all, preschool were able to create their own tickets and discussed how you wait in line to board. Next, they chose where they were going to sit and what they might see 💂

Preschool expanded their vocabulary by using words such as 'ticket', 'passenger', 'fare' and 'destination' when planning their day.

As well as this, preschoolers created narratives as to why they were travelling to London. One child said 'I'm going to see Buckingham Palace whilst another said 'I'm going to see the London Eye'.
