Repost from Nursery page: 😊
This week, we used our theme of summer to have a flower tea party. The children used clay to make different food for their tea party and used flowers as money to pay for the cakes and also to decorate their cakes. The children then made their own flower gardens. They counted petals, spoke about their own gardens at home, role played a tea party pouring each other drinks and making food on request for one another. They also spoke about the flowers and stems whilst making a print in the clay. After this, we extended the children's interest in the activity with some flower arranging. They used clay in small buckets to stick flowers into, make bouquets and we used the flower decorations on the table at meal times.

To continue the theme of summer flowers, preschool did some still life painting of flowers. The children chose their paints, poured them into the trays, discussing among themselves about what colours were on the flowers and what colour paint they were going to use. Some children wrote their names on the back of a piece of paper and they all painted the flowers using their own interpretation of what the flowers looked like. One child painted a whole page blue and said her flowers were in the sea. Another child said they painted flowers in a museum and another child used a lot of different colours to represent each flower on the bunch exactly as they were. The children spent a long time engaged in this activity and independently collaborated and discussed the activity with their peers.
The children independently washed their hands when they finished painting and put their art on the drying rack.
