What a month it's been ☀️

As we look back on four fantastic weeks of The P***e Summer School, we're celebrating some of the many experiences our students enjoyed along the way. From basketball, climbing and paddlesports to 3D art creation, cooking challenges, musical theatre and much more, there was something for everyone to discover and enjoy.

Thank you to all the students and staff who helped make this summer so memorable.

At the inaugural P***e Pomeroy Sustainable Design Summer School, students worked alongside internationally renowned architect to explore how cities can adapt to climate change and rising sea levels.

Through inspiring talks, global case studies and hands-on design workshops, participants developed innovative ideas for the cities of tomorrow while building their creative thinking and presentation skills.

A fantastic two days of collaboration, innovation and future-focused thinking.

A week of creativity, confidence and wellbeing at The P***e Summer School ✨

Students on Arts and Cooking: Well Me spent last week exploring practical strategies to support positive wellbeing through a variety of hands-on activities. From baking cupcakes and practising yoga to creating self-esteem collages, building bug houses and producing nature-inspired artwork, there was plenty of opportunity for creativity, reflection and fun.

It was wonderful to see students developing new skills, celebrating their achievements and exploring strategies to support their wellbeing.

Reaching new heights at The P***e Summer School! 🧗

From climbing and bouldering to abseiling, students on our Climbing course spent last week building confidence, developing new skills and taking on exciting challenges in a fun and supportive environment.

It has been fantastic to see our young climbers embrace every opportunity, whether scaling the wall, tackling a bouldering route or making their first abseil.

Last week, students on our Design & Make Challenges course took on the task of designing and building their own clocks. Combining creativity with practical engineering skills, they worked through the design process to produce some fantastic finished results.

Design & Make Challenges encourages students to think like engineers, tackling a variety of design briefs using different materials, tools and technologies while developing confidence as creative problem-solvers.

The final Showstopper Competition of The Great P***e Bake Off was a fantastic way to round off the course!

After a week of whisking, mixing, piping and decorating, students revealed their incredible cake creations. The standard was exceptionally high, with each bake showcasing the creativity, skill and dedication developed throughout the week.

Splash, spin, and smile! 🛶 Our Paddlesports week at The P***e Summer School has been incredible.

Pupils have spent the week getting to grips with the fundamentals of paddlesports, trying their hand at both canoes and kayaks in the pool at The P***e Sports Centre.

From learning to paddle in a straight line to weaving through tight turns on a course, they've built confidence on the water, all through games and challenges that kept the energy up and the smiles wide.

A big thank you to tutor Kelan, our lead outdoor instructor, who brings over a decade of paddling and archery experience to the sessions, along with the Paddlesports team. Their passion for helping young people safely push themselves in new environments made this course so enjoyable for students!

Brushes, ink and a whole new way of seeing 🎨

This week, some of our Summer School artists have been discovering the art of Chinese traditional watercolour painting; learning the materials, techniques and history behind this art form, and how it compares to Western styles.

Their tutor is Sarah Li, who teaches Mandarin and Cantonese at The P***e and joined us in 2019. Sarah's own artwork won a prize at the United Nations 60th Art Festival, and she brought that same creativity into the classroom this week.

Discovering the hidden world of The P***e 🔬

Today, our young biologists put their lab skills to the test, using microscopes to examine a variety of samples including mint, sage and thyme, revealing details not visible to the naked eye.

As part of Biology: Hidden World of The P***e, students have spent the week exploring the incredible diversity of life around the School through a blend of practical experiments, outdoor investigations and scientific discovery.

During this session, students created these vibrant woven rainbows as part of a week filled with sewing, designing and making. It was wonderful to see their creativity and confidence grow with every project.
