Will China displace the United States as the world’s leading power by the centenary of Communist rule in 2049? Will the rise of China be a Thucydides trap? A new Cold War? Or 1914 sleepwalkers? Professor Nye suggests that a successful strategy must lay out conditions for a cooperative rivalry starting with a careful net assessment of power resources and the formulation of feasible goals.
Professor Nye is renowned for co-founding the theory of neoliberalism, pioneering the concept of soft power, and his theory of smart power is recognised by global policy leaders. He was ranked as the most influential scholar of American foreign policy, and named one of the top 100 Global Thinkers by Foreign Policy in 2011.
