🌞HAPPY SPRING EQUINOX 🌼

This is a magical time of year when the sun is finally on his way back after a long sleep in the depths of winter. Mythologically, it’s a time of birth and fertility, with the spring maiden being reborn and bringing life and joy with her.

May the long time sun shine upon you
All love surround you
And the pure light within you
Guide your way on

💜💛💚

If, like me, you grew up with childbirth images like Kirstie Alley in 'Look Who's Talking' screaming "GIVE ME THE F-ING DRUUUUUUGS!!" you may have always assumed you'd need all the epidurals in the world to get through labour.

Swipe to read about the risks associated with epidurals and the benefits of a natural birth, something that can not only be bearable but actively positive.

For more insight, check out my blog posts on natural childbirth, home birth and hypnobirthing linked in my bio.

An increasing number of couples are deciding not to have children due to concerns about climate change.

The science isn’t clear in terms of just how much you would lower your carbon footprint by not having children, but the effect of the climate situation on the world's children is clearly a concern for many of us, mothers and non-mothers alike.

Here are some tips for those of us who are choosing an ethical mothering lifestyle and would to lower the impact of our pregnancies.

Let me know in the comments what other steps you have taken either during or after pregnancy to try and minimise your family's environmental impact👇

*To add to my disclaimer, Tip Four is for women who would like to breastfeed and have no reason to think they physically can't. If that is not you, please swipe to Tip Five.

DISCLAIMER: It is absolutely your choice how you approach sleep with your child and there’s no intention to shame sleep training mamas here.

This post is intended for mamas who believe in responsive and ethical approaches and want to feel confident in pursuing truly gentle sleep consultation.

If you’d like to find out more about why sleep training is unethical, or what gentle methods to optimise infant sleep to use instead, check out my blog posts linked in my bio 👆

When I used Baby Led Weaning (BLW) with Ursula, I already had to deal with a load of shocked people going "But what if she chokes?!" I also dealt with horrified faces when I told them she was vegan.

If your babe is at an age where they're ready to start weaning onto solids and you're not sure if you can put them on a plant-based diet, here are a few myths dispelled.

I go into more depth in my Plant-Based BLW Guide linked in my bio 👆

Surprisingly, many pregnant women assume that things like routine treatments and offers of intervention during maternity care are obligatory. Although many positive changes are being made, lots of us are still shuffled along the maternity conveyor belt with insufficient levels of consent.

Case in point, I had an appointment made for me to have an Anti-D injection (a routine intervention for pregnant women with rhesus negative blood) without being asked if I wanted it. Spoiler alert: I don't and I'm now spending more time than I care to trying to cancel the damn thing…

We have far more bodily and human rights during pregnancy than we are led to believe by ( ) care providers.

If you want to learn more about human rights during pregnancy and birth, I cannot recommend .hill 's book 'Give Birth Like A Feminist' enough (link in bio). It's an eye-opening read and a very important piece of work.

If this is relevant to you then, first things first… I am SO sorry for your loss. I've been there and I stand with you in honouring your grief.

There is hope after miscarriage. I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy and I want to pass on the knowledge I've gained with that experience.

Note: I do understand that some people object to the word "miscarriage" as it has connotations of blaming the mother for the loss. However I've used it to here to distinguish this type of early (before 20 weeks) pregnancy loss from stillbirth/baby loss.

All loss is loss, all loss is a heartbreak, and you deserve kindness, compassion and support throughout it 💜💚💛
