It's a few weeks afterwards, but what a wonderful souvenir of this year's wonderful group of interpreters!

We had a full complement: 27 students, 14 teachers, 4 observers, 3 tech help, 2 Chiefs of Staff/tech goddesses and my deputy!

Our thanks go to all the students, for their energy and their willingness to sign up for what must have been a difficult situation - after all, it takes someone brave to sign up for critiques and feedback on their performance!

We would also like to thank the teaching staff, without whom we couldn't have had such a convivial atmosphere, even in these trying times. Our teachers are friends, and that feeling even comes through over the internet...

And our biggest thanks go to three people:

my deputy Tatiana Kaplun, who ended up teaching, teching, organizing, and basically making sure we didn't forget anything, and

Marie-Jeanne Vanleynseele and Sian Gu, our goddesses - because if they had said "no," then we wouldn't have held the Course. They deserve more thanks than we are able to give!

And to think - the teachers, tech observers, my deputy and our Chiefs of Staff are all volunteers!

How can we ever thank them enough?

Lots of love,

Julia Poger and Chris Guichot de Fortis

It is with great sadness that the faculty and students of the Cambridge Conference Interpretation Course bear witness to the passing of Sergio Viaggio, on 28 March 2021, as a consequence of Covid-19.

Sergio was a longtime pillar of the CCIC. He was a unique individual in the interpreting firmament. He marked the lives of all those with whom he came into contact during his years teaching with us on the CCIC.

Sergio’s teaching methods were well documented in his series of articles, many focusing on teaching interpreters to analyze. He put those methods into practice, often working with individual students and smaller groups to pass on his vast experience. He helped many acquire unquestioned legitimacy through his constant devotion to the Course and to teaching in fora all over the world.

He was both a friend and a colleague, opening up his home and his heart to those around him. It has been a privilege to share a profession, and often a location, with him. With his passing a light is extinguished.

Our best thoughts and prayers surround his loved ones.
