CSMS results are in – and what a result!

We couldn't be prouder of our Cornwall School of Mathematics and Science students, with an incredible 74% achieving A–A grades* this year.

That's more than double the national figure of 28.3% – a fantastic achievement and a reflection of the hard work, ambition and determination shown by our students throughout their time at CSMS.

We're also incredibly proud that every student who applied for Medicine or Veterinary Science secured a place, with our specialist medical and veterinary pathways providing dedicated support throughout the application process.

From specialist teaching and academic enrichment to university links and tailored guidance, CSMS is designed to help ambitious students take their next steps into competitive STEM courses and careers.

💜 An unforgettable moment for an incredible cause 💜

Today, our amazing Head Girl, Hattie, took to the stage in front of the entire Nexus community and bravely cut off her hair after raising an incredible £3,600 for The Little Princess Trust. 👏💜

The atmosphere was amazing, with students and staff cheering Hattie on every step of the way. To raise even more money, she also auctioned off the opportunity to cut the first section of her hair, held a cake sale, and inspired everyone around her with her courage and selflessness.

The money raised will help The Little Princess Trust provide real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment and other conditions. It will also help fund vital childhood cancer research, supporting the development of kinder and more effective treatments for young people facing cancer.

We could not be prouder of Hattie. She has shown extraordinary compassion, bravery and determination, and has reminded us all of the difference one person can make when they decide to help others.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated, bought cakes, took part in the auction and supported Hattie throughout her fundraising journey. Together, you've helped raise an incredible £3,600 for a truly life-changing cause. 💜

🌟 Year 12 Progression & Activities Week 🌟

Students from the Sixth Form and CSMS began their UCAS journey this week, with Monday and Tuesday dedicated to intensive personal statement support from tutors and the Sixth Form team, helping students reflect on their achievements and aspirations for the future.

The rest of the week was a chance to relax a little, with a range of activities including beach trips, woodland walks, a sports extravaganza, board game tournaments, TikTok holiday planning, Great British bake off and a polymer clay jewellery workshop.

Thank you, Year 12, for a brilliant week and brilliant year so far! We are incredibly proud of your hard work, enthusiasm and achievements, and look forward to supporting you through your final week before the summer break.

A fantastic day for our Year 12 CSMS Sixth Form students at the Institute for Research in Schools (IRIS) Student Research Conference in Exeter! 🔬🎓

Our students confidently presented their research posters to scientists, researchers and fellow students, showcasing the outstanding research they have been undertaking throughout the year. It was a fantastic opportunity to share their work with a wider scientific audience while developing valuable presentation and communication skills.

A special congratulations to Riley R, Fox H and Tom R, who delivered an excellent oral presentation exploring gender differences in a Split and Steal game. They spoke with confidence and professionalism, representing CSMS brilliantly.

Alongside presenting their own research, students enjoyed an inspiring keynote lecture on the detection of black holes before hearing from STEM professionals working in satellite technology, aerospace launch operations and chemistry. The conference provided a fascinating insight into the exciting opportunities available across the STEM sector.

We are incredibly proud of every student who took part. Their curiosity, ambition and commitment to scientific research were evident throughout the day, and they were outstanding ambassadors for Cornwall's home of STEM excellence.

We would like to wish our incredible Year 13 students every success as they leave CSMS to begin their next chapter.

We are immensely proud of everything they have achieved during their time with us. They have been an exceptional year group, and it has been a privilege to watch them grow into confident, ambitious and compassionate young people.

Many of our students are now looking ahead to the next stage of their education, as they await their results and the opportunity to take up places at some of the country's most prestigious universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, on some of its most competitive degree programmes, including Medicine, Veterinary Science and many others. We wish them every success as they await their results and embark on these exciting next steps.

Last week, they came together one final time for their Leavers' Assembly and Sixth Form Summer Ball, where Years 12 and 13 celebrated the end of an unforgettable chapter. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything they have accomplished. They have been an amazing year group, and we are so proud of each and every one of them. We cannot wait to see all that they go on to achieve in the years ahead.

What a spectacular finish to the Cornwall Schools Science Olympiad 2026! 🧪⚡🏆

After three demanding rounds of practical, theory and engineering challenges, the scores were so close that several teams were still in contention. In the end, it came down to an exhilarating University Challenge-style final between Richard Lander School and Nexus.

A huge congratulations to Nexus, who kept their nerve to be crowned Cornwall Schools Science Olympiad 2026 champions! 🎉👏

Thank you to every student, member of staff and school who took part, including our fantastic visiting teams from South Korea, for making today such an inspiring celebration of curiosity, innovation and scientific excellence. We can't wait to do it all again next year! 🔬🚀

Today, Cornwall's brightest young scientists are putting their knowledge, creativity and teamwork to the test as the Cornwall Schools Science Olympiad 2026 gets underway at the Cornwall School of Maths and Science! 🧪⚙️🔬

We're delighted to be hosting 19 teams from 12 schools, including two visiting teams from South Korea, for a day of exciting competition. Throughout the morning, students will tackle practical, theory and engineering challenges before the top two teams battle it out this afternoon in a thrilling University Challenge-style final.

Good luck to every team taking part – we can't wait to see who will be crowned this year's champions! 🏆✨
