Huge congratulations to Senara, who has been crowned the Under-16 Girls’ winner of the Dartmoor Fell Race Series!

Competing across the season from March to September, Senara came out on top after a series of challenging races across Dartmoor’s rugged terrain. The overall title is awarded based on runners’ best scores across at least six races, making this a brilliant achievement that reflects her consistency, determination and talent.

An incredible season and a fantastic result – well done, Senara, on becoming the series champion!

What does a career in writing really look like?

Our Nexus students had the chance to find out this morning as we welcomed Melanie Logue for a special guest lecture.

Melanie is a copywriter, bestselling fiction author, ghostwriter and freelance non-fiction author, giving students a fascinating insight into the many different paths a career in writing can take.

From creating stories and developing characters to writing for businesses and helping other people tell their stories, Melanie’s career demonstrates just how many opportunities there are for talented writers beyond the traditional routes.

It was a brilliant opportunity for our students to hear directly from someone working professionally across different areas of the writing industry, and to find out what it takes to turn a passion for writing into a career.

A huge thank you to Melanie for joining us and sharing her experience with our students.

What happens when Shakespeare meets life inside a women’s prison? Our Year 7–9 students found out on Monday when they watched the Royal Shakespeare Company’s First Encounters: Julius Caesar at Treviglas Sports Hub.

This modern adaptation was set inside a women’s prison, where a drama group was rehearsing Shakespeare’s famous play.

Our students were completely captivated by this powerful and immersive production. Kacie summed it up perfectly: “It was so amazing, I couldn’t take my eyes off it,” while Katryna said: “The actors were so convincing and mesmerising.”

In fact, the performances were so realistic that some students genuinely believed one actor’s stage nosebleed was real!

The experience didn’t end when the curtain fell. Students had the opportunity to meet two of the actors, including the actor who played Caesar, and talk to them about the production, its adaptations and the importance of experiencing live theatre.

It was a fantastic opportunity to introduce our students to Julius Caesar and, we hope, spark their curiosity and enthusiasm when they begin studying the play next half term.

What a brilliant way to bring Shakespeare off the page and into the world!
