Almost 150 Year 12 students from Camborne Sixth Form travelled to Exeter to explore their next steps after A-levels and vocational courses, gaining first-hand insight into university, employment and apprenticeship pathways

Students spent the morning speaking with representatives from the University of Exeter, University of Oxford, UWE Bristol and the University of Plymouth, alongside employers including Specsavers and the Armed Forces, and apprenticeship providers such as Dyson

The afternoon included a guided tour of the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus, where students explored teaching spaces, sports facilities, halls of residence, the healthcare centre and the Great Hall

We were delighted to welcome Dr Kamran Yunus from Downing College, Cambridge, a specialist in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, to speak with our Year 12 students and a group of prospective Year 11 students who have already shown an interest in the Oxbridge pathway.

Dr Yunus gave a fascinating insight into the structure of a collegiate university and talked about the wide range of courses and career opportunities available. He also shared valuable advice on the kinds of things students can start doing now to strengthen a future Oxbridge application.

Students were particularly inspired to hear about some of the incredible research currently taking place at Cambridge — from black holes, to biotechnology and medicine, to the surprisingly intriguing politics of smell!

It is opportunities like this, where students can engage directly with academics and learn first-hand about university life and research, that help make our Oxbridge pathway so successful and contribute to our strong track record of offers from Oxford and Cambridge.

A huge thank you to Dr Yunus for such an engaging presentation and for taking the time to speak so openly with our students. His personable approach and enthusiasm were truly inspiring and encouraged our students to dream big.

CSLA Taster Day

Students had the incredible opportunity to work alongside a practising barrister, gaining real insight into criminal court proceedings. They explored the art of cross-examining witnesses, developing their questioning skills and experiencing first-hand the intensity and precision required in the courtroom as part of CSLA’s Law Pathway. It was inspiring to see them step into the role with such confidence and focus.

The day then shifted to a thought-provoking exploration of "identity in the modern world". Students debated the complexities of what shapes us as individuals – from personal experiences to wider societal influences. Their critical thinking was exceptional, and they articulated their ideas with clarity, maturity and confidence.

We were incredibly proud of how engaged, reflective and enthusiastic everyone was throughout the day. A huge thank you to our excellent facilitators for guiding such purposeful discussions and creating an environment where ideas could truly flourish.

A purposeful, inspiring and thought-provoking day all round – we can’t wait to see what the future holds for these talented young people!

This interactive session gives a taste of our distinctive interdisciplinary approach, combining critical thinking, creativity and cultural understanding. Students will:
• Discover CSLA and its ethos
• Take part in a Law Pathway workshop, applying critical thinking to real-world problems
• Join a Liberal Arts session showing how subjects connect across the curriculum
