YEAR 6
Year 6 have been learning all about World War II this term, including the significance of the music to keeping morale high across the Allied nations.

They have completed research on Dame Vera Lynn and listened to some of her most famous tracks. During music lessons, they have learnt to sing 'Hey, Mr Miller!' in the round and recorded it to share with families at home. To conclude their lessons on this period, the children learnt how locate chord 'C' on the keyboard and play it within a chosen Christmas song.
CHRISTMAS PARTIES
Each year group will have their Christmas party this week. The children are invited to wear their party clothes all day on their party day.

Monday- Year 6
Tuesday- Year 5
Wednesday- Year 3
Thursday- Year 4

Forest School with Year 4 this week has been all about emotions and the feelings that come with them.

We spent time around the fire circle discussing how emotions make us feel. We then set the children a challenge to choose an emotion and recreate them using natural resources.

Here are Miss Contentment, Mrs Astonished and Mr Anxiety.

Today we celebrated Ocean Day. Year 3 learnt how waves cause coastal erosion, Year 4 learnt how fertilisers and other chemicals enter our oceans and Years 5 & 6 focused on Plate Tectonics. The day was a mix of science and geography. Some children brought in the most amazing dioramas they had made at home. Well done to all.

Proudly presenting our brand new Forest School shelter.
With special thanks to: Vivienne Chapman whose funding made this project possible; the PTA for contributing to the roof; Wells King for organising and delivering our materials; the Forest school team and partners for their expert construction and Mr Cherry for the genius seating

The children now have a beautiful barn that complements our wonderful woodland. It gives us an outdoor space that’s dry and windproof for us to hone our Forest School skills when the weather is against us. It will make a huge difference to the children in the winter.

So grateful for everyone involved in this project. It’s wonderful what we can achieve when we all come together. This is what forest school is all about .

A big well done to our Year 6 cricket team for drawing on all their skills and courage to take part in the Cricket Tournament this afternoon. I was very proud of you all.

The children loved the new sand pit. If anyone has a lidded sand pit they don't want anymore, we would love to add to this area of the school.

We are so lucky to have a dipping pond in our grounds which enables us to study habitats without leaving the school. The grounds also make SATs revision much more fun when it takes the form of a maths trail with questions and answers to find.

Our school grounds are looking stunning in their spring colours.

TOGETHER. EVERYONE. ALWAYS. MATTERS

Teamwork is something we are working on this term in Forest School. With our 'popcorn challenge', we are encouraging each class to think about others and explore opportunities of working with new partners.

It is lovely to hear children describing collaborative working as something that's fully inclusive and top marks for a member of Elm Class who used the Team acronym-
Together. Everyone. Always . Matters.

Extra points to Elm Class for this perfect description.

At Crawley Ridge we have become passionate about what will happen to Antarctica when the treaty protecting it is reviewed in 2041. We have made our own pledge to recycle more to help the environment. Our Antarctica 2041 club studied all aspects of Antarctica and finished by making ice cream.

Year 6 used all their senses, except taste, to explore Mediterranean food and build up a bank of vocabulary for their Sicilian travel brochures.

Photos from Crawley Ridge Junior School's post 17/03/2023

Year 4 travelled back to Ancient Greece on Thursday and explored what it would have been like to live all those years ago. The children were so excited by all of the activities.

15/03/2023

Greek salad was on the menu this week in Forest School.

We enjoyed talking about the Ancient Greeks and what their diet consisted of. This lead us on to the children embracing community cooking by preparing a Greek salad. We then sampled some traditional food from Greece, including Tzatziki and hummus.

All the children embraced the whole experience, despite their being some very strong flavours on the menu. Well done year 4.

One of our children let Steve Backshall know that he was the inspiration for his World Book Day costume. Steve very kindly sent us this response. How amazing!

Year 5 visited Hampton Court on Thursday and were amazed by its size and grandeur. They had a very challenging workshop, which made them think about historical bias, as well as enjoying the sights of the palace.
