Having a go at pointillism following in the footsteps of Paul Seurat, especially given the current exhibition of his work in London! Perfect for oil pastels and a photo of a coastal scene, we met the challenge of laying colour dots without blending and let the eyes bring it together. Nearly drove us dotty! Antiqued maps in pen and ink. Using wet in wet for aging our multimedia paper, then sketching our designs on top when dry which included the land drawn on a scale to accommodate added motif illustrations of a sailor's travels, and then firming up with dipping pens to give it an authentic, time-worn finish. None of the maps were accurately drawn from a text book, more like what the ancient mariners and cartographers had to guess from eye of land and shorelin shape. Accompanied by some interesting personal stories! Lovely lesson!

Arylics session using impasto techniques with our palette knives and brushes. We warmed up with some loose sketches with minimal amount of strokes of our palette knives to capture the swathes of colourful draped cloth of African tribal wear, and then moved onto the collected line-ups of people in desert bush landscape and let the colour sing!
