An update on my latest round of tests as It’s almost a month since I saw the consultant to get a playback of the x-ray, MRI and CT scans on my scoliosis to better understand my increased pain levels this year.
The news was as expected really - I’ve done well to keep relatively pain free up to now but the recommendation is surgery and sooner is preferred.
The view is that if I have a fusion in the next 2 years that it will likely be T4-L4 so I still keep some movement above and below the fusion, especially in the pelvis.
If I decide to wait and then opt for surgery at a later date, maybe in my 60s, then it would be a fusion into the sacrum, so much less mobility.
The other option, to do nothing, didn’t really feel like an option as far as the consultant was concerned as this would be a real negative outcome!
🤯🤯🤯
This has been a LOT to get my head around.
For now, I am working on my scoli exercises, walking my lovely fur baby every day, taking more time out to relax and just mulling over what’s next, as I feel I have some time to really decide on what’s best for me next.
Oh and I’m still teaching Pilates of course!
I’ll continue to post a mix of Pilates bits and my own journey with scoliosis on here and hope it’s helpful/funny/authentic/uplifting to someone 😊

New week, New vibe! And when I read what people think about my classes I do a little happy dance 🕺
These words are from the lovely Sam, who really is a fabulous human, thanks Sam ☺️
A full day today; private sessions this morning in the home studio then I’m off for my reformer class before teaching 2 classes in Bagshot this evening.
And the sun is shining ☀️

It’s been a home studio planning afternoon - I love this little space in the garden 😊
The enormous tree branch isn’t my attempt at a living roof on the studio but a gift from storm Hank! Luckily no damage 👍
If you’re booked in for a class tomorrow then I look forward to seeing you - we’ll be starting back gently. Honest 😉

Thanks Erin, Heather, Jennifer, Sarah and all the team what a fabulous 2 days of learning, moving and making new friends.
Living with scoliosis is a journey. There are good days and bad days but the more I learn about the way my body moves and responds to movement, the more I can help myself and others, so hopefully there are more of the good days.
The past 2 days I have got to meet this amazing group of ladies, all scoli warriors, and I have learnt a ton.
No two scoli bodies are the same. Even if the curves look the same, we can feel pain in different places, feel tight in different muscles and move differently.
Thanks Erin for helping us to help ourselves 😊
What a workshop!
Last Saturday was the Pilates and Plants for Healing workshop at .
We were blessed with amazing weather and had a fabulous morning moving with Pilates and learning about the healing benefits of plants and herbs.
We tasted fresh herb teas and sampled homemade treats.
Made a lavender infused oil to take home and enjoy its calming effects on the skin.
And there was a good bag with a few surprises 😄
Here’s what one of our guests had to say ‘The whole thing was fabulous. I learned an awful lot and it’s really opened my eyes to literally what is beneath our feet and what we can do with it.’
If you missed out but would have liked to be there, please let me know in the comments as this is a workshop Connie and I would be delighted to run again 😊
Workshop day is tomorrow!
I’m on last minute prep today:
✅ baking fresh goodies
✅ class plans ready to go
✅ goody bags packed
✅ check in with Connie!
We can’t wait to run this Pilates and Plants for healing workshop.
See you in the morning if you’re coming 🪴🧘♂️
A little Pilates stretch flow I’ve just been playing around with.
Just mobilising the spine, stretching some muscles and relaxing into the breathing…
Until Bucky got involved 🤣🐾
I used to teach a 30 minute stretch & relax class on zoom every Friday during lockdown to end the week.
It was a lovely way to wind down into the weekend.
And I’ll be finishing this Saturday’s workshop with a stretch & relax session 🙏
If your Saturday morning is a little quiet, why not join us 10am-1:30pm and you’ll still have all afternoon to get out and enjoy the sun ☀️
Link to tickets through the website or get in touch. Hope to see you there 😊

The Pilates and a plants for Healing workshop is this Saturday!!
We’ll be finding out more about this herb on the day and will also have it as a tea to taste🫖
This herb grows in my garden next to the pizza oven, in abundance!
It’s Mediterranean, smells amazing and tastes great with lamb!!
Guessed it?!
It’s not too late to book a spot and come along on the day. Tickets on the booking system, link in bio.

This is a good one! I caught my dog eating this w**d on our morning walk today. As a bit of context, yesterday Bucky ate a chocolate tart and had to go to the vets to have his stomach emptied 😭
It was awful but he’s OK and recovering today. I found it so interesting that he chose to eat this everyday w**d that grows in the grass – like he knew what was good for him!
I didn’t even know what this plant looked like until a few months ago. Now I see it everywhere!
This is a w**d that you WILL pass everyday on your travels. I picked some this morning from right outside my front door.
I’m going to make a tea, as Connie mentioned it might be a good one for me to try.
If you want to find out more about common plants and herbs as nature’s medicine cabinet, and take part in some Saturday pilates, join us for our half day workshop on 7th October.

Ahead of our half day workshop on Saturday 7th October at Bisley Yurt, some fun facts this week to give you a flavour of what to expect on the day.
We’ll be finding out more about this particular herb on the day, but it’s super easy to grow, smells delicious and has calming properties.
Any guesses??

2 weeks tomorrow until my first half day workshop at Bisley Yurt.
If ‘doing things the natural way’ is your thing, then you might be interested to hear what my guest speaker Connie Knupfer has to say about using plants for medicine.
I’ll be sharing some sneaky titbits next week to entice you, but Connie was my go-to lady this week when I had an insect bite that was driving me crazy!
She gave me one of her homemade potions and it didn’t just fix the itching but it was the most amazing green colour!
2 Pilates sessions on the day too. Mixed ability, suitable for beginners, and then a lovely stretch & relax session.
Pop me a message if you’d like to join us. Still a few £40 tickets left.

I’m excited to tell you about a half day workshop that I’m bringing to the Bisley Yurt on Saturday 7th October.
‘My Pilates Tribe Presents’ is my chance to bring to you Pilates and an introduction to fabulous and interesting subject experts, passionate about their craft.
In this first workshop, the forgotten art of plants for healing, Connie will share her passion and knowledge about Plant Power and the natural healing abilities in everyday plants that pass by our feet.
In this interactive session you will:
🌿 discover how you can use plants for family first aid
🌿find out how working with plants can complement Western medicine
🌿uncover the healing properties of plants like plantain, nettles and lemon balm
🌿make your own natural potion to take home
And, of course, there’s Pilates too! A 60 minute Mixed Ability session to kick us off and a shorter Stretch & Relax session to close the workshop.
This half day workshop runs from 10am - 1:30pm.
Drinks and homemade yummies are included in the ticket price, which is £45, with a £5 discount for the first 5 places booked.
Spaces are limited to just 10 people.
Please drop me a message if you’d like to join us, I’d love to see you there 😊

This time last week vs today!
It’s still warm and sunny ☀️and feels great to get vitamin D whilst moving!
The beach at Montauk, Long Island vs my back garden, Surrey 🤣
Are you more beach or garden?? 🤔

Skiing with scoliosis isn’t something I’ve ever really thought about before. I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy a couple of ski holidays over the years, but for the first time this year I got really scared 😳
My back was really playing up before we went away so I was a bit apprehensive. But I have been amazed at my body and how well it’s coping, especially my back.
My legs, however 😣!!
For now, I’m grateful to be here. To appreciate the views, the fresh air and the thrill of making my way down a mountain on a pair of skis 🎿
More to come on some of the challenges, things I’ve noticed and best ways I’ve found to cope…..

A reminder that there are no classes running this evening at Bagshot Pavilion (20th Sept).
Sorry for the inconvenience, this one was out of my hands.
Back next week as normal; beginners 6-7pm and Mixed ability 7:15-8:15pm.

The Thursday morning ladies rocked it this morning 👏👏👏
‘Toys’ (as they’re affectionately called!) were kept to a minimum today; just the Pilates small ball for a bit of stability work but this tribe worked super hard today.
Well done ladies, you look fab in this photo 🙌

Idyllic isn’t it?! to the start of the summer when it was warm enough to have our class outside ☀️
This is a wonderful location to practice Pilates.
When I cross the threshold into the farm at Bisley yurt there’s a real sense of peace and calm. We all love our Thursday evening session here!
It’s a popular class but there’s often a space or two free, so if you fancy Pilates on the farm in the enchanted studio get in touch 🧘♀️

If you’ve been missing your Pilates fix, worry not; group classes started back this morning and it’s not too late to book your spot.
6 group classes every week running across Camberley, Bagshot and Bisley.
Or one-to-ones in the garden studio, Camberley.
See link in bio for details or drop me a message.
Can’t wait to see you soon!

To keep us all safe during the super hot weather, I’ve made the decision to cancel group classes on Monday and Tuesday next week.
If you were booked in then I’ve contacted you by email and changed your booking.
Thursday classes will still go ahead and we still have the last week of July before a bit of a break in August 👍
So enjoy the weather ☀️ Stay cool and practice your deep breathing to stay cool and calm.

An 8% reduction in my curvy spine. 8%! What a way to end
Earlier this week I saw the consultant at RNOH and he measured a 53 degree Cobb angle.
15 months ago it measured around 61 degrees.
How can this happen? Well despite the consultant saying that I was probably hunching over during my previous X-ray 🙄, I believe it’s down to my own tenacity to find the right people to support me in my quest to help myself and avoid surgery.
Being a pilates teacher and practicing Pilates regularly is surely part of it, but the scolio-Pilates exercises and corrections that I work on are a big contributor in my opinion.
I have an active lifestyle, walk the dog at least once a day, and I try to eat well. Although anyone that knows me knows I’m not one to give up on cake and chocolate 😉
I have regular massage and I am very open to alternative therapies like acupuncture, cranial sacral therapy and reflexology, all of which I enjoy from time to time.
But it’s probably the scolio-Pilates that has helped me most. Firstly, in terms of understanding what is going on in my body, why it dips in here and sticks out there, has a crease here etc. And moving on from that, my fabulous mentor Julie works me through Pilates-based exercises and breathing exercises specific to my curve.
I thought it was so great I started my own training in the practice so that I might be able to help others understand their curves and perhaps to feel in control.
It’s been an emotional week! But tonight, I’m celebrating in style - Guns n’ Roses in concert with my 12-yr-old son - can’t wait!! 🤟
Any other out there seen a reduction in their Cobb angle? I’d love to hear all about it - let’s share successes and show others what’s possible❤️
Just playing around with the and class planning for Monday!
Balance with the circle, watch out Monday morning tribe 😉

Living with scoliosis can be funny sometimes!
It’s going to be a scorcher today, so I popped on a floaty skirt this morning to walk the dog.
Look in the first pic how much my hip hike on the right means the waistband of the skirt rides up.
I find myself adjusting an outfit like this all day 🙄 and always have a top that covers the waistband (pic 2!)
I’m not complaining, it’s just one of those funny scoliosis idiosyncrasies - anyone else??!
Right, off to enjoy the sun ☀️

June is so a re-share of my most recent X-ray, which is actually from March 2021.
I’m due a review with the consultant at the end of this month and if I’m honest, I’m a little anxious about what an updated X-ray might show.
Those who know me know I’m keen to stay away from surgery, if possible. This is just my preference, I know surgery is the best option for many curvy spines.
Living with scoliosis has got more difficult as I’ve got older. I have more pain than before, feel I say no to things I didn’t use to say no to and I have many ‘what about the future’ thoughts.
But, I know more about my body than ever before. There is power in knowledge and I feel more in control which makes me positive about my future.
There’s lots to say about living with scoliosis, so more to come, but I guess for today, my message is just that there are up days and down days - Stay close to the people that feel like sunshine ☀️

A reminder to us all - CELEBRATE EVERY DAY.
I’ve found myself channelling Dame Deborah a few times lately when I thought I was having a rough day.
What an inspirational woman. There just aren’t the words!
I will wear my T-shirt with hope in my heart that one day there will be a cure ❤️

Wednesday is 1-2-1 day in the home studio.
Here’s the fabulous Peter working the dart with tricep pulses.
Lately we’ve been working on some mobility and core-strengthening exercises to help support Peter’s golf swing.
If you’ve been thinking about Pilates and would like to work one-to-one on something specific, get in touch.
Having the garden studio means I can usually be pretty flexible around your own work/life commitments.
And it’s such a peaceful and calming space to work in 😊

It’s been a busy weekend. Hubby was on a challenge to walk the Isle of Wight, so I had to do all the dog walks, childcare and general weekend jobs (like watering the garden 😩 I hate that job!).
But, I’m trying to stick to my new promise to do some Scolio-Pilates exercises every day.
Yesterday, I got out in the glorious sunshine and practiced my penguin 🐧 to try and find better alignment.
I’m noticing the benefits of regular practice and feeling back in control 💪
Looking forward to my next session with she is such a great support to me 🙏

I saw an opportunity with some of the Thursday morning crew in their Tribe t-shirts today!
When I was coming up with a name for this little business, Tribe really appealed as I was hoping that people would get chatting, maybe make new friendships and we’d have a community feel.
It makes me smile so much to see people swapping numbers or chatting at the beginning or end of classes.
Thanks to those who were happy to have their photo taken this morning - we had a fab class in this sunny space ☀️

It was a busy one this morning. Lots of lovely new faces and some returners, but it was lovely to see everyone chatting and saying hello before class.
A perfect start to the week 😊
