🚦 Level Crossing The Hatches : Good progress on the Miniature Stop Lights

I’m really pleased to see work progressing on the miniature stop light (MSL) system, with installation of the equipment now underway and some of the fencing and boundary improvements already completed.

Over the coming weeks, the equipment will be fully installed and then temporarily covered between 23 November and 4 December while testing is carried out. This will allow the team to make sure everything is working as it should before the system goes live.

Importantly, Network Rail will also be meeting with local residents during the week commencing 23 November to review the Yodel alarm volumes and the brightness of the lights. Listening to residents and making sure the system works well for the local community remains a priority.

The MSL system is scheduled to be fully commissioned and operational from 7 December 2026. 🎉

It’s encouraging to see this project moving forward, and I’ll continue to keep residents updated as we reach the next stages.

❤️ A fantastic opportunity for local community organisations! ❤️

I’m pleased to share that applications are now open for free defibrillators, funded by the British Heart Foundation and available through South Central Ambulance Service.

If you’re part of a local non-profit or community-focused organisation, this could be a really valuable opportunity to help make our community safer and potentially save lives.

The defibrillator must be made available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in a non-lockable and uncoded cabinet so it can be accessed quickly in an emergency.

📢 I’d encourage all eligible local organisations to take a look and consider applying.

Applications are currently open until 28 February 2027, although this deadline may change depending on the number of applications received.

As you may know Ofsted and CQC is inspecting Surrey's SEND service.

There has been a lot in the media lately about these services, so it’s good that the regulators are fact finding on these concerns.

Can I ask residents to share the survey far and wide - there are three separate ones on this page link below

There is one for children and young people, next one for parents and carers and final one for practitioners - it is so important that all of their voices are heard.

If people don’t know about the consultation and don’t respond, a valuable opportunity to get a true picture of what is going on in Surrey may be missed.

The inspection will be a valuable starting point and independent overview for the new West Surrey Council that starts on 1st April 2027.

This morning, after being tagged in a Facebook post, I popped along to the Mytchett Canal Café to see if I could find out a little more about the situation.

Unfortunately, there was no management on site when I visited, but I’ve left my contact details and hope to speak with them soon so I can better understand the concerns being raised.

As this is a matter for Surrey County Council rather than Surrey Heath Borough Council, I want to make sure I have a full understanding of the situation. I’m keen to work alongside our County Councillor to see what can be done and offer any help and support I can.

The Mytchett Canal Café has been part of the local community for many years, and I understand how important it is to local residents. Hopefully, by working together and having constructive conversations with all those involved, we can find a positive and suitable way forward that supports the café and helps preserve this valued local business. 👍.

🚧 ACTION TAKEN – safer road markings coming to The Green :

I’m pleased to share some positive news following concerns raised about the faded road markings at the corner of The Green, where it meets Bedford Lane and The Hatches.

The markings had become extremely worn, and residents had reported a number of near misses involving vehicles pulling out without stopping. This was clearly an issue that needed addressing.

I have now contacted Surrey County Highways to raise the concerns, and I’m pleased to confirm that the faded road markings will be repainted and made safe within the next 28 days. ✅

This is exactly why it’s important that residents continue to raise local issues. By listening to concerns, reporting them to the right department and following them up, we can help make a real difference to our local streets and communities.

I’ll continue to keep an eye on this and will update residents once the work has been completed.

Another local issue raised, action taken and a positive result for our community. 👏

🚧 Update on local Frimley Green works – progress for our community :

I’m pleased to share an update following my recent contact with the project team regarding the ongoing works and the traffic mitigation agreement with Surrey County Council on Wharf Road and Sturt Road junction.

I’ve now been advised that the agreement is currently being progressed, with an anticipated start date in early 2027.
Once a firm date has been finalised, the project team has confirmed that information will be communicated to the wider community.

I’ll continue to follow this closely and keep residents updated as further information becomes available.

It’s important that residents’ concerns are heard and that we continue to press for clear information and progress on issues affecting our local community.
I’ll keep you posted as soon as I have a confirmed date. 👍
