The teenagers in our K3 English and Maths group have been writing for a real purpose and are fundraising for a special group of 32 children living together in Hope Grace's Orphanage in Uganda.
The children are cared for by the director, Matte and his team - a kind, caring and determined group of young people doing their very best to provide love, safety and hope for children whose parents have died from AIDS-related illnesses.
The reality is that they cannot afford the rent, food, clothing, school fees, medical care and other basic essentials on their own. Matte works as an electrician and fits his work around caring for the children and helping to keep the orphanage running.
Our young people have been researching, discussing, writing and even video chatting with the children. What began as an English project has become something much more personal, as they have learned about the children's lives, hopes and challenges, and have been inspired to help.
If you are able to donate, even a small amount, it really could help provide food, clothing, education and security for these children.
Every penny raised will go directly towards helping the children with essentials such as food, clothing, bedding, school fees and medical care.
Thank you for reading, and if you can't donate, please consider sharing this post. โค๏ธ

Why Help?
The children of Hope Grace Orphanage need vital essentials such as food, including cereals, vegetables, fruit, rice, meat and more. Clothes for children of all ages are also desperately needed.
They are young children who have faced many challenges, and this is a chance to help make their lives a little brighter and give them hope for the future.
Like children everywhere, they simply want to be loved and to have opportunities in life. Is that really so much to ask?
They would love bicycles to ride, educational resources to learn from, new mattresses to sleep on, help with school costs, medicine, and many of the things that we often take for granted. They also dream of having their own land where they can grow food and become more self-sufficient.
During a video call, the children told us they would like to become soldiers, builders, plumbers, mechanics, lawyers and police officers when they grow up.
So we ask if you could help us to help them โ children helping children. We truly hope that people will be able to support this cause and give whatever they can.

Hope Graceโs Orphanage started because of the dedication, love and care of the community.
Hope Graceโs Orphanage in Uganda was created by Matte Shafic and Graceโs family. They started with ten children โ six orphans and four street children โ and have grown to over 30 with the love and support of local people. Every day is a challenge, but their aim remains the same: to provide caring homes, decent education, healthcare and a strong future.
Their goal is to provide care, education and support for the young children of Uganda, helping them to become healthy, happy, carefree and independent adults with secure homes and stable physical and mental wellbeing.
The orphanage struggles with many things that may be considered โnormalโ for many families, but for these young children they are considered luxuries. These children struggle with food, clothes, housing, education, medication and money. They are kind and vulnerable children who dream of things we often take for granted: a greater variety of food, bicycles, better-quality clothing and bedding, and secure homes with loving families.
