It's been a busy start to 2026 here at the Academy with Paul and Dave crunching the numbers for our 2025 sustainability impact report (coming soon). Paul has been working on the microbiology side of his business presenting at a conference for the Food Industry at Cafre in Northern Ireland. We have also been working on our next course to help you calculate your scope 3 emissions that will launch later this year. Happy Easter everyone!

Great news that Defra’s farming in a protected landscape grants programme is being extended to 2029. Look at what’s been achieved so far in this infographic. It’s supporting the Peak District farmers to move towards nature friendly practices. Farmers can apply for grants under the four themes of Nature, Climate, People, Place. Tackling climate change often has positive business benefits as well as improving the landscape for everyone. We may be biased but we in the Academy know that The Peak District is one of the best places to live 😊

Great to see nearly 600 Santas in Buxton running this year's Jingle Bell Jog, organised by Blythe House Hospice and raising over £19,700 for local hospice care.

Moors for the future use natural flood management techniques to reduce flood risk in the Academy’s home town of Buxton. Restoring blanket bogs north and east of our town slows water flow during storms & heavy rainfall periods. Blanket bogs also absorb carbon, tackling climate change. COP30 is taking place in Brazil today. During the next 2 weeks of the conference we will be looking at how climate change links to people's real lives and the economy. This is one of the key themes of COP30.

One of the themes of this years COP 30 is connecting climate change to ‘peoples real lives and the real economy’. All of us have a role to play in making this theme visible to everyone.

In the UK political world climate change has become a disputed concept, amplified by social media where disinformation spreads rapidly. Facts established by robust scientific research get rubbished on a daily basis.
