Happy national dog day! 🐶
The sign for 'dog' is a lovely one to learn because we see dogs absolutely everywhere and they're a great conversation starter. You can talk about what the dog looks like, what the dog is doing and how to be gentle when stroking dogs. So much fun, but there is so much learning!

We love bubbles! So much fun! But did you know they are useful in so many other ways? They help with hand and eye coordination, they help with building up muscle strength and help to hone those pointing skills.

Who knew?!

If you can add some bubbles to your day then you're not only entertaining your child, you're also helping them to develop.

👶Do you have a baby inder 6 months? The next 5 week term of Sing and Sign Babes starts NEXT MONTH in New Mills, Buxton and Chapel-en-le-Frith!

💜A special 5 week term of age appropriate music, songs, signs, props, and games developed with speech and language therapists to tap into early communication and understand what it means.
🧡Classes are small and intimate, filled with fun, laughter, cuddles, and bonding. (And biscuits!)
💛At the end of term you will have a few key signs to use with your baby as well as games and activities to help with their development as they get older and set you up in good stead for Stage 1!

Has anyone had a hot brew recently?!

I find being out of routine quite difficult sometimes, I'm definitely more settled when I know what I'm doing each day. We've passed half way now of the 6 week holidays! We got this. 🤣 I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. I'm really looking forward to getting back to teaching Sing and Sign NEXT MONTH!

Sing and Sign can help all children (and adults!) to be effective communicators. Right from birth, babies are taking in everything from their surroundings. They love to read our faces and body language. They can tell us when they're hungry by crying. Older babies can tell us things by pointing. Sing and sign builds on these key gestures that our babies and young children make and helps to give them a voice before they have their own. We never sign in silence, so signing supports speech right from the beginning.

Just gonna leave this one here... it links to the reel I made yesterday about having a village. Sing and Sign helps us to understand our children, it gives them a voice before they can speak. It supports their language as it develops. But it also provides a weekly class for us to see the same faces every week. The adults develop a lovely bond and the children get comfortable with everyone in the room. Friendships are made and support is there. It's magic and I Iove being part of it.

Sometimes we all need that 'village' to help us. When I moved to Buxton I didn't have that. I didn't know anyone and had a 5 month old baby. Baby groups were a life line! A conversation with a grown up was sometimes all I needed to feel sane. I really hope my classes provide this. Some grown ups come in tired and fed up but leave with a smile. To give a little back just makes my day.

Let's get prepared for the autumn! Get booked into a baby group with a difference. We sing, we sign but we laugh so much!

Colourful scarves! We love them! They are great for learning colours for older children and we make a lovely game of it. But they also play a huge part in our Babes term. We play the all important game of peek-a-boo! This is great for anticipation and learning object permanence. Where is the person hiding behind the scarf? Oh yeah, there you are! Babies start to learn that the game is great fun because we, as adults can model that behaviour with smiles and giggles. Your baby will love to see your face reappear! This helps babies to understand the world because their prediction that you're coming back comes true!
Absolutely great fun for babies, but they are also learning! Who knew?! Every class is fun and engaging with songs and games. But babies learn so much too. (I have it on good authority that babies sleep for ages after!)
