What does a resilient team and good wh***ey have in common?
When you're developing them, neither can be rushed.
Today I had the pleasure of heading right up to the North Coast to work with the team at Bushmills Primary School and Nursery Unit delivering my Build a Resilient Team workshop. Standing outside one of the world's oldest licensed wh***ey distilleries, it struck me that resilience is something that develops over time too.
A resilient team isn't created by one great team-building activity or one inspirational afternoon. It's built through the small things we do consistently:
◾Listening well,
◾Staying curious,
◾Building each other up,
◾Recognising strengths and intentionally rooting for the people around us.
Those things might seem small in isolation. But, over time, they help create something much stronger, a team that can navigate the inevitable challenges, setbacks and pressures of school life together.
So perhaps the question for any team isn't: How resilient are we?
But:
What are we doing over time that will make our team stronger?
