The person matters as much as the performer.

On World Mental Health Day, we’re recognising the personal journey that sits alongside professional training.

A degree is a time of change… finding your independence, forming new relationships and discovering who you want to become. In performing arts, it also means learning to navigate feedback, expectations and the vulnerability of putting yourself into your work.

At MPAA, our year tutors and in-house pastoral care offer individual support throughout that journey. Sometimes that starts with a conversation, someone noticing you’re having a difficult week, or knowing who you can turn to.

Alongside this, we help students find support and resources through organisations including BAPAM and One Dance UK, and develop their professional connections through Equity and Spotlight.

You don’t have to wait until everything feels overwhelming to ask for support. Your wellbeing matters throughout your training… in the studio and beyond.

Induction Week brings all three years into the same room to work with creatives at the cutting edge of our industry. They are pushed beyond their comfort zones and challenged to create an incredible amount of material in a very short space of time.

The work they produced was brilliant... but what meant the most was watching every student have their own breakthrough and seeing the different years support, encourage and lift one another throughout the process.

A huge thank you to our wonderful creatives for challenging, inspiring and supporting our students... and for creating a space in which they could take risks, discover more about themselves and produce such great work.

That is what MPAA is about.

It is the family atmosphere. It is rising by lifting others. It is finding your individuality while learning what it truly means to be part of an ensemble.

We are not simply building a community for the duration of a degree... we are building one for a lifetime.

What a wonderful way to begin the year.
